Qi Gong ! ! ! Qigong is an integration of physical postures, breathing techniques, and focused intentions. Qigong practices can be classified as martial, medical, or spiritual. All styles have three things in common: posture (whether moving or stationary), breathing techniques, and mental focus. Practices vary from the soft internal styles, such as Tai Chi, to the external vigorous styles, such as Martial Qigong. The slow, gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be adapted for all levels of physical ability, and can be practiced by all age groups. This workshop will teach the 18 active form of therapeutic Qigong (Lian Gong Shi Ba Fa) to promote the movement of qi and blood in the sinew channels. It is especially beneficial for neck, shoulder and lumbar pain, which are the most common issues in individuals seeking chiropractic or massage therapy. ! • • ! ! Qigong is effective in treating qi and blood stasis as a result of lumbar or cervical disorders. !Similar to other exercises of its type, it is most effective when combined with acupuncture and tui-na/acupressure, since there is a mutual enhancement of therapeutic effects. • 18 active therapeutic Qigong is unique in that it is a form of treatment as well as a method of prevention. Daily practice this form of exercise may prevent many forms of occupational muscular injury and fatigue.
