After breaking an 11-game losing streak, the Crimson Knights will be heading into a relatively similar situation as the one they did last week against Brick. Freehold Borough is currently undefeated, with a 5-0 record, just as Brick had been unbeaten before the Knights’ victory. Freehold Borough is coming off a recent 38-14 win over Marlboro. The Colonials have beaten opponents this season by an average of nearly 18 points. It is going to be a balancing act for the Crimson Knights — using the momentum from the win against Brick, but channeling that into playing the Colonials rather than dwelling too much on last week’s game. ADVERTISEMENT “We are just hoping to carry over the momentum,” said junior quarterback Matt Cluley. “We enjoyed that win but it is time to move on and build off of it. We keep moving forward and now our only main focus is Freehold Borough.” Before Brick, the Crimson Knights had moments of brilliance, plagued by more moments of trouble. Against the Green Dragons, Wall was able to string together a full game, and that is what the team is hoping to do again versus Freehold Borough. “We definitely want to carry over the momentum because there were obviously a lot of positives against Brick,” said Cluley. “You want to take those and keep using them, keep working hard in practice, but you don’t want to sit back and live in the past.” ADVERTISEMENT The Crimson Knights have the advantage of playing a home game tomorrow night against Freehold, rather than traveling and working for another win on the road. CURCIONE HONORED The New York Giants recently named first-year head coach Dan Curcione The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week, presented by Chase Bank, for the week of Oct. 13. Wall upset Brick 28-27 in double overtime, prompting the Giants to honor him. Each week, the Giants select a high school coach based on the coach’s commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and overall community involvement. The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week is given weekly as part of the Giants’ effort to promote youth football. Curcione will receive a certificate of recognition from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Giants coach Tom Coughlin as well as a $1,000 check, matched by Chase, towards the Crimson Knights football program. Curcione will be honored at the Giants’ Nov. 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts. Once the 2014 comes to an end, the Giants will name a Coach of the Year, which will receive $2,000, to be matched by Chase, towards the school’s football program.
