Description
The ohmic voltage sensor GSER 16 is designed for use in medium voltage installations. It is suitable for monitoring and
measuring direct, alternating and mixed voltages for applications like frequency converter installations, motor management purposes and power quality analysis.
The digital isolating amplifier EGIW 804AV is especially
designed as an add-on product for the voltage sensor GSER 16
for applications which require an electrical isolation between
the input and output signals. It also offers electrical isolation
between the auxiliary power supply and the input and output
signals.
Voltage sensors are used instead of voltage instrument transformers if the primary voltage contains dc components and/or
higher frequencies than 50/60 Hz. The combination of a voltage sensor and the digital isolating amplifier represents a high
precision, wide frequency range, electromagnetic compliant
and isolated system.
The GSER 16 ohmic voltage sensor represents a measuring
unit consisting of a high voltage resistive divider (R1, R2) and a
preventive electromagnetic shielding (S), which provides high
EMC and enables the GSER 16 to be used in environments with
heavy external interferences and disturbances.
The isolating amplifier EGIW 804 AV is designed for this kind
of voltage sensors. It converts the sensor signal into digital data
which is transmitted galvanically isolated to the output where it
is reconverted into an analogue voltage. This analogue voltage
is conditioned to an adequate level and is provided as output
voltage which is corresponding to the primary input voltage.

Installation and connection instructions
Mounting
Vertical or horizontal with electronic box
downward.
Commissioning
After all input, output and auxiliary supply
lines have been connected, the device is
ready for operational use without any setup
or adjustment being necessary.
Maintenance
The Transducer does not require any
maintenance.
1. Primary screw M10 of stainless steel
2. Ø 14 mm grounding point (internaly
connected to electronic box)
3. Electronic box with integrated
isolating amplifier EGIW 804
4. Cable gland Pg 9
5. Bottom plate of galvanized steel
6. Cast resin
7. Insert nut of stainless steel
8. Rating plate
Input connections
The input voltage (Up) has to be connected
to the primary terminal (1).
The earth connection has to be made via
the bottom plate at the grounding point
(2; internal connected to electronic box).
Output connections
Output voltage (Uout) has to be connected
via screw terminals at terminal block Uout.
Auxiliary power connections
Auxiliary power supply voltage (Uaux) has to
be connected to terminal block Uaux.
Cable recommendation
Double-shielded cable
Each shielding must be connected to one
side only. The outer shielding must be
connected to the cable gland at the
electronic box.
For better EMC it is recommended to
connect the inner shieldings to ground at
the opposite side.
RITZ Instrument Transformers GmbH – Core competency
Under the trading name „RITZ Instrument Transformers GmbH” RITZ has been pooling its activities to gather new strengths
since 01.08.2007.
The tradition and knowledge of the parent company „RITZ Messwandler Hamburg“ and the subsidiary „RITZ Messwandler
Dresden (TuR)“ has been united with the companies “Wandler- und Transformatoren-Werk Wirges (WTW) and “Messwandlerbau Bamberg (MWB)” under this name. This merger unites a total of more than two hundred years of know-how in instrument
transformers production.
In addition, RITZ has decided to concentrate on the core business of medium voltage and low voltage transformers in which
the high voltage division is sold. The resources gained through this shall now be applied for additional innovations and quality
standards in the medium and low voltage products. RITZ is therefore securing its position on the global market.
The overseas corporations of RITZ Instrument Transformers GmbH in Austria (Marchtrenk), Hungary (Kecskemét), China
(Shanghai) and USA (Hartwell) strengthen the company’s position on the international market.
