Five-pointed Star Starglyph
The five-pointed star is the most commonly drawn star. All around the world, this shape is used as a representation of the stars in our night sky. Interestingly, it is more challenging to draw a precise five-pointed star than a
six-pointed star, which is created by two triangles sitting inverted on the other. Yet perfect five-pointed stars are
found naturally on the Earth. Notice the
leaves of a tree with five points or flowers that have five petals, as well as the
starfish in our oceans. Nature shows the
elements we are so connected to and the
geometry of the things we are made.
This geometry is a part of the construction of our universe and so we are also
made of this too. It can explain, in its
natural silent nature, we are of the same
spirit of earth and the cosmos from
which it was created, as we are one and
everything is related. We are made of
this too. These natural geometric elements can open to the door to remind us
that we too are made of the same fivepointed star.
This photo of Saucy Calf (Osage) was taken in 1912. He wears this same fivepointed star as the Starglyph that appeared June 6, 1998. In the mornings he
would wear this star as you see it. The upper point is pointing to the sky. It was in
honor of the morning star. In the afternoon, he would turn it upside down in honor
of the evening star. He would recognize the balance that exists between night and
day.
The meanings of this symbol are infinite. Most people on this planet do not know
about the symbolic meaning of a common five-pointed star. Because of the nature
of the people at this time, there will be many that will not open themselves to the
Earth and Spirit in this lifetime. But for those who sense the importance of symbols or feel there may be something to them, here is a little about the basic nature
of the five-pointed star. It could be said to represent our five senses - smell, touch,
hearing, sight and taste. Each one is given a point of this star.
In the native way of thinking, this could
also represent the five elements, or five
parts of which we are made: earth, wind,
fire, water and spirit.
There is yet another symbol within this
starglyph which is important to indigenous
people. It is the circle and the dot (notice
the original image of the starglyph design). The dot is found at the center of the five-pointed star and the circle encompasses the entire star. In
the Buddhist philosophy, the circle would be referred to as “everything” and the dot at the center is “nothingness or emptiness” from which everything emerges. In ancient Native American ways, the circle and dot represented many things. Most referred to as a sun symbol or the ability to see. This same circle and dot also
represented a person as well as a symbol for the Earth. It depended on where it was found as to how it was used.
This is a map of an ancient mound site with circle and dot that is 28 acres in size. (The circle and dot is also
shown below.) Researchers have attached most mounds sites as burial
mounds, however, these were where the people lived. Although, there may
be places inside them were people were
buried. Much like a church, it is not a
burial ground although people are
buried there. These symbols served as a
way to constantly remind the people of
what they were made of and connected
to. These mounds are a place of spiritual
ceremony.
Notice the circle and dot is in the head of the serpent mound. In the ancient symbol the serpent mound, the circle and dot has been made into an
egg shape. It is representing the ancient meanings of the circle and dot as a
new beginning, like an egg. The serpent is swallowing this egg so that ultimately will join in the flows of the universe.
There are many
beautiful things
to be found in
this starglyph. I
smiled when saw
the circle around
the star as being
the center of a
sunflower radiating outward with
its petals. It felt
like a sunflower.
A sunflower represents the natural symmetry of
the universe. Notice the geometry
in the center of
the flower. It is a
Fibonacci spiral,
which is found within the entire structure of the universe. When we see these things in nature, we can connect to
this natural symbol along with its perfection, beauty, and magical flow.
How to relate to these within ourselves on the earth mother can be a life-long quest and journey into the truths
of the earth and the universe.
