PROJECT REPORT-VII
Project Title: Help People with MDR TB to Complete Treatment (15811)
Reporting period: July’2015 to Sept’2015
Project is being implemented at North Delhi in India since 2008, with the coverage of approx. 0.5
million population. In this coverage area project providing free TB testing and TB treatment
services to underserved population like as slums, migrants, semi urban and industrial area
population. Project has its own five TB testing and treatment facilities (one facility caters 0.1
million population). Since 2008, project tested around 19000 TB symptomatic people and
around 4000 people taken TB treatment from the project run facilities. By the end of the
September’2015 about 640 TB infected (first line) people taking treatment, 44 people are taking
MDR TB treatment and Six (6) people are taking XDR TB treatment from the project.
Project is aimed to control spread of MDR TB through early case detection of the TB cases with
screening of close contacts for TB, referring Cat-II cases for Culture/DST testing and providing
treatment adherence counseling to all first line TB cases. During the reporting period project had
screened 167 first line TB cases close contacts among them 20 people diagnosed with first line
TB and 26 close contacts of the MDR TB cases tested among them one person diagnosed with
MDR TB. Special attention is given to TB patients taking Category-II treatment for 8 months
because they are more prone to MDR TB. In the reporting period about 02 persons taking TB
treatment lost follow up to treatment and they are retrieved by the project successfully. Around
37 newly registered Category-II cases received treatment adherence counseling. About 78
sputum samples collected and transported for MDR TB test (Drug Susceptibility Test) in the
reporting period for early diagnosis of MDR TB to arrest further spread of the drug resistant TB.
Also project providing socio-psychological and medical related support to the MDR TB patients
through MDR support group meetings, during the reporting period total 11 support group
meetings were organized and addressed medical related issues mostly related to drug side
effects. And also identified six TB infected people with poor health and economical conditions
and then project providing basic nutritional support to them, three are from MDR TB, one from
XDR TB, one from Cat-II and another one from Cat-I along with HIV infection. Due to limited
resources project providing nutritional support to only six patients through Global Giving
