The ONG Archipelagos would like to collaborate in SM - STUDENT PLACEMENT:
We would like to inform you about Erasmus placement positions that we have available in the
region of eastern Aegean islands, Greece. These placements are implemented with Archipelagos,
Institute of Marine and Environmental Research of the Aegean Sea, a non-profit environmental
NGO, whose work aims in the conservation of the natural environment of the Aegean Sea
(www.archipelago.gr).
Archipelagos’ research work focuses on various fields such as the study of the biodiversity of the
marine environment (coastal ecology & biodiversity, marine mammal populations, fisheries
productivity), as well as of the terrestrial environment.
For the purpose of the research and conservation work, Archipelagos provides research bases and
stations in 5 islands and islets of the eastern Aegean Sea, as well as 2 research boats. Students and
graduates, during the placements with Archipelagos, carry out work related partly on research, and
partly on conservation.
The available placement positions Archipelagos offers during autumn 2007 - 2008, are on the
following fields related to environmental research and conservation:
Marine research and conservation
Flora Research & Conservation
Research on Bird Populations
Agronomic Research & Seed Bank Projects
Chemical assessment of environmental impacts
GIS analysis of marine & terrestrial biodiversity data
Scientific illustrations of marine and terrestrial flora & fauna
Graphic Design for environmental conservation
Production of DVDs & animations on the environment of the Aegean Sea
Environmental photography & filming in the region of Aegean Sea
Applications of renewable energy sources
Administrative Assistant

PLACEMENT DURATION
Individual trainees can join in placements of duration 3 - 12 months
Groups of students/ trainees can join in placements of shorter duration (2 weeks - 3 months) as well.
ARCHIPELAGOS CAN ALSO PROVIDE FOR THE PARTICIPANTS:
- Greek or English Language Courses
-Guidance of a tutor who will be responsible for monitoring the progress of the placement
- Evaluation of work carried out and final report
- Certifications from Archipelagos, IMERAS, about the experience gained and results and outcomes
of the project
- Full board accommodation
- Organizing of transport from airport and ferry ports to Archipelagos’ research bases
