compared to other ecosystems – there are
fewer species, but greater numbers of
them.

Krill means “whale
food” in Norwegian.
Krill are ‘shrimp-like’
fish and are a key part
of the Antarctic food
web, with many animals
feeding on them.
They are extremely
abundant, although
recently their numbers
have been dropping.
