PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A. This specification and associated drawings describe Square D Low Voltage Drawout Power Circuit
B. Breakers, Type DSII, constructed to ANSI C37.13 standards. The enclosure, Square D Power-Zone III,
Series 2, switchgear assembly, and system description are described in Section 16430-1.1 - Low
Voltage Metal-Enclosed Drawout Switchgear.
1.02 REFERENCES
A. ANSI C37.13 - Low Voltage AC Power Circuit Breakers used in enclosures.
B. ANSI C37.16 - Related Requirements and Application Recommendations for Low Voltage Power
Circuit Breakers.
C. ANSI C37.50 - Test Procedures for Low Voltage AC Power Circuit Breakers.
D. NEMA SG-3
E. [UL 1066]
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. [Breakers shall be equipped with UL label for low voltage power circuit breakers.]
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS
A. Metal-Enclosed Low Voltage Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear shall be "Power-Zone III, Series 2"
with type DSII Circuit Breakers as supplied by the Square D Company. Specify cost additions or
deletions for equipment supplied by another approved manufacturer.
2.02 EQUIPMENT, COMPONENTS, AND ACCESSORIES
A. Circuit Breaker
1. Circuit Breakers shall be drawout type [DSII] [DSLII] [manually] [electrically] operated.
2. Breakers of like frame sizes shall be interchangeable as standard. No special structure bracing
shall be required.
3. All circuit breaker operating mechanisms are to be two-step, fully stored energy devices for quickmake, quick-break operation. Actuation of the operating handle or an operation cycle of the circuit
breaker motor is to charge the closing springs (step one) and operation of a local "close" button is
to close the circuit breaker contact (step two). Closing the circuit breaker contacts shall
automatically charge the opening springs.
4. The circuit breaker shall be covered in the front such that when installed in an enclosure cell with
a solid hinged door a double barrier shall exist between operating personnel, the circuit breaker
mechanism and live parts. The circuit breakers are to mount on a rigid, self-aligning drawout
mechanism with "connected", "test", disconnected", and "removed" positions. The front door shall
be capable of being closed in the "connected", "test" or "disconnected" positions.
5. Padlocking provisions shall be furnished to receive up to three padlocks when circuit breaker is in
the open position, positively preventing unauthorized closing of the circuit breaker contacts. A
manual trip button and position indicator shall be furnished on all circuit breakers. "Push to Close"
button shall be conveniently located on face of circuit breaker for easy access, thereby avoiding
the need to reach behind or around other devices located on the face of the circuit breaker.
6. Provide interlocks so that the circuit breaker must be open before it can be moved from any
position when it is between positions. Include an interlock to discharge the stored energy spring
before the circuit breaker element can be withdrawn from its cell. In the "test" and "connected"
positions, provide a positive ground contact between the circuit breaker element and the structure.
7.
Low voltage power circuit breaker arc chutes containing asbestos will by no means be accepted.
*******************************************************************
Include the following option only when type DSLII circuit breakers are specified
*******************************************************************
8. [Circuit breakers shall be equipped with current limiters. Current limiters shall be integrally
mounted on 800A and 1600A frame sizes and separately mounted on 3200A and 4000A frame
sizes. Equip each circuit breaker with a blown limiter indicator visible from the front of the circuit
breaker, and with an anti-single-phase device which will trip the circuit breaker when any limiter
blows, and which will prevent reclosing the circuit breaker on a single-phase condition resulting
from blown or missing limiters.]
B. Trip System.
1. The circuit breaker trip device is to be of a solid-state microprocessor design which requires no
external power connections.
2. The trip device is to be rms current sensing.
3. The trip device is to be provided with an adjustable long-time delay, [instantaneous] [short-time
delay] over-current/short circuit protection. [Include ground fault tripping as an integral part of the
solid-state trip device.] Provisions for self-testing shall be provided.
4. Indicators for overload, short circuit [and ground trip] shall be provided.
C. Accessories (Optional)
1. [Circuit breaker shall be supplied with POWERLOGIC Digitrip 810D trip unit capable of
providing ampere, power, energy, circuit breaker status and, when applied on electrically operated
circuit breakers, remote operation of the circuit breaker, via a POWERLOGIC monitoring and
control system.]
2. [Others: customer to determine]
