Receiving the Silver Star Award The Silver Star Award is the highest honor given by the Nevada Association of Student Councils Five parts are required in order to receive this award: 1. The Monthly Packet 2. Charitable Financial Contributions 3. Community Service 4. State and Regional Participation 5. School Involvement Goal packets consist of FIVE components. The acronym, “STARS,” can help you remember all of the parts of the goal packet. Set goals In a goal sheet, two or three goals are needed along with an explanation of how you plan to accomplish your goal. Take minutes Minutes are required every month from one of your council’s meetings. It is a summarization of what was discussed at the meeting. Agenda at your An agenda is a written plan of what is to be discussed meeting. Retrospect A retrospect is a reflection of how your council did on your goals from last month. Scheduling An activity calendar is required contain all events that your student council participated in. REMEMBER: 1. An event is NOT a goal. 2. Your minutes and agenda must be from the SAME meeting 3. Your minutes and agenda must be from a meeting with your entire council. 4. Goal packets count towards the award starting in September and ending at State. 5. You may only miss ONE goal packet during the time period above. Your council must sponsor a fund raising activity to raise funds and awareness for a charity of your choice. The charity does not have to be official 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. You must have evidence of your donation such as a receipt or thank you letter. You must include pictures of the event or promotional materials in your scrapbook. Your council must participate in at least THREE service projects. This is a dedication of time rather than financial support. You must provide evidence of your service projects within your scrapbook. You must attend a Regional Conference. You must attend State Conference. You must exchange ideas with your Sister School -Two contacts are required: one between July 1st and November 30, one between December 1st and March 1st. -A contacts is a tangible item. -Evidence of your scrapbook is required in your scrapbook. You must participate in an activity that involves a Middle School/ Junior High School. -Evidence of this event must be in your scrapbook. FIVE school activities are required. These include, but aren’t limited to, pep rallies, assemblies, and tailgates. THREE staff appreciation events are required. ONE dance is required. ONE school service or Campus Wide Educational Program. School Service can include campus beautification or volunteering time to a staff member. A Campus Wide Educational Program can include antibullying campaigns or drug awareness. ONE leadership training event is required. It can address topics of communication, delegation, and many others. TWO student recognition/appreciation are required. ONE scrapbook is required. - Your scrapbook must include evidence of all the events listed under school involvement, - A signed copy of the Silver Star Application must be included. -A table of contents is also required. -A copy of your council’s constitution is also required. YOU CAN BE A STAR AND RECEIVE YOUR SILVER STAR AWARD.
