Section 3 – Input Devices
Knowledge and Understanding: Learning Outcomes
Pupils should be able to:
1. describe the energy transformations involved in the following devices:

microphone

thermocouple

solar cell
2. state that the resistance of a thermistor changes with temperature and the resistance
of an LDR decreases with increasing light intensity
3. carry out calculations using voltage, current and resistance for the thermistor and
the LDR
4. state that during charging the voltage across a capacitor increases with time
5. identify from a list an appropriate input device for a given application
And in addition:
6. carry out calculations involving voltages and resistances in a voltage divider
7. state that the time to charge a capacitor depends on the values of the capacitance
and the series resistance
8. identify appropriate input devices for a given application
