VISUAL THEATRE FESTIVAL #9 29 JANUARY – 6 FEBRUARY 2016 TRAVERSE THEATRE, EDINBURGH Job Description: Digital Communications and Logistics Volunteer Thank you for your interest in volunteering at manipulate Visual Theatre Festival 2016! POSITION DESCRIPTION This year manipulate is recruiting two volunteers to play a key role in the delivery of the 2016 Festival’s online marketing campaign and digital voice, as well as managing press coverage and aiding with logistics during the festival. Festival volunteers will have all travel needs reimbursed and be provided with a daily stipend. In addition to this, we will provide complimentary tickets to performances and screenings. ABOUT MANIPULATE VISUAL THEATRE FESTIVAL manipulate – now in its ninth year – is an annual celebration of innovative international visual theatre and animated film. The Festival aims to entertain, intrigue and inspire Scottish audiences, theatre makers and animators – showcasing contemporary visual theatre and animation that is rarely seen in Scotland or the even the UK. This year the Festival presents one world, one European, and two UK theatrical premieres from around the globe. The Festival will be held on the 29 January – 6 February 2016 in the Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh), as well as having satellite performances in The Lemon Tree (Aberdeen), Norwich Puppet Theatre, and Little Angel Theatre (London). Volunteers will be based in the Traverse Theatre. manipulate is produced by Puppet Animation Scotland. WORKING HOURS All hours and arrangements are flexible. Pre-Festival: Four days on lead-up to festival (from 18 January onwards) Ideally we would appreciate help (around four days) from our Digital Communications and Logistics Volunteers leading-up to the festival – to assist with preparations and familiarise themselves with the festival/office. Festival: 29 January – 6 February 2016 The Digital Communications and Logistics volunteers will share the role between them, with either/or covering each day of the festival. Volunteers will therefore need to be available for the majority of the festival dates. Post-Festival: Two days post-festival (from 8 February onwards) We hope that our Digital Communications and Logistics Volunteers will be able to commit to two days post-festival to assist with reporting, feedback and archiving. RESPONSIBILITIES Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Festival’s Social Media Campaign Plan. Actively monitor and engage with the Festival’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Storify). Creating content and responding/’listening’ to audiences/potential audiences. Uploading news items to the festival website – creating content in line with the Campaign Plan and managing uploads from performance critics. Collating press cuttings from newspaper articles and online – managing and displaying reviews on the press cuttings wall at The Traverse Theatre. Receiving and escorting members of press to performances. Liaising with the Box Office and Festivals & Projects Manager to ensure complimentary tickets are issued to members of the press. Generally manning the manipulate office in the Traverse Theatre, responding to general enquires and any other relevant duties. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Experience and interest in online marketing/social media. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to write blog articles and social media posts. Strong attention to detail. Excellent team working skills. An interest in visual theatre, animation and the arts generally. Use of own laptop is preferable, if possible. PRACTICALITIES This is a volunteer role however we hope a highly rewarding one with real responsibilities. The successful applicants will gain practical experience and establish industry experience.
