DEFENCE SYSTEMS Network Interface Unit (NIU) Dealing with the extensive range of interfacing types is a significant issue for baseband systems that need to provide flexibility of interfacing and routing of data between equipments. This is particularly true for older legacy components where the interface is often bespoke and does not conform to any recognised international or national standards. Even where compatibility is claimed by equipment it is often only for part of a standard and the interface does not necessarily conform at all levels whether functional, electrical or physical. These cases often require special hardware and software to be introduced to enable compatibility for data exchange between equipments. The SEA Network Interface Unit (NIU) provides a flexible and open solution to this problem. It is a versatile system to interconnect a variety of digital and analogue communication devices over a LAN or WAN. Using personality cards (CAMS) ports can be configured for isochronous serial, asynchronous serial, synchronous serial or analogue formats. The core technology uses data encapsulation techniques to route data over a LAN or WAN between remotely located equipment and systems. engineering for success This permits interfacing to a range of equipments such as modems, encryption devices, and digital and analogue terminals. The system has been proven with a number of legacy communications systems including a range of military radio systems and cryptographic units. •A modular architecture supporting a wide range of interface types •Handles all standard and non-standard serial data rates to 250 kbps •Supports analogue signals up to 27 kHz bandwidth •Interface type and electrical configuration by plug-in CAM Modules •Supports configurable clocking arrangements for synchronous circuits •Data routing allows one-to-one or one-to-many configurations •Provides unlimited physical separation between equipments •Dual-redundant power supply and network connectivity for high availability •19” rack form factor providing 12 channel (2U) capacities •Controlled from a single control position on the network •Remote access to control, status and monitoring data •Proven with a large range of military communications equipment Interfaces: Standard Serial •Synchronous serial (external/internal clocking) •Asynchronous and isochronous serial with flow control •Standard and non-standard baud rates (50-115,200 baud) •Synchronous rates to 250 kbps •Single ended or differential signals (EIA232/EIA422) •Latency <20 mS, jitter <1 mS •Bit error rates <3 in 1010 •RS-530A signal and physical interface (DB25) Military Serial •Programmable MIL-STD-188-114A •Synchronous serial (external/internal clocking) •Asynchronous serial with flow control •Standard and non-standard baud rates (50-115,200 baud) •Balanced or unbalanced signals •Latency <20mS, jitter <1 mS •Bit error rates <3 in 1010 •37-way physical connector (DB37) Managemant and Control Software Interface •Windows (XP, Vista and Windows 7) compatible and provides the following functionality through its API: •Circuit operation •Mode (isochronous, asynchronous serial, synchronous serial, analogue) •Sampling/clock frequency •Packet size •Receive buffer size •Clocking modes •Connectivity •Network configuration •IP address •Gateway address •DNS address •Netmask •DHCP operation •Ethernet mode •Interface settings •Signal logic sense •Default state •Loopback state •Interface status •Various including, buffer over runs, under runs, missing and bad packets, power status, sampled signal states, temperature and loopback mode Analogue Serial •Bi-directional analogue full duplex •8 control signals in each direction •16-27 kHz bandwidth •0dBm levels (600W load, 100W source) •Linear ADC •Noise floor < -60 dBm over full bandwidth •0.5% THD •44-way high-density D (HD44) connector For further information T: +44 1373 852000 F: +44 1373 831133 [email protected] www.sea.co.uk
