Name __________________________________________Period_______ Inner Planet iMovie Information Packet Use a variety of resources (books, online databases, magazines, internet) to fill out this data collection sheet. Planet Name & Symbol History of this Planet (discovery and how did it get its name). Where is your planet located right now? (constellation it is near) Can we see it now? Basic Facts: What number planet is it from the sun? What is the distance this planet is from the sun? (km in scientific notation) How far is this planet from Earth? (km in scientific notation) Number of Earth days to orbit the sun (revolution or length of year). Number of Earth days to rotate on axis (length of day). Basic Facts Continued (use scientific notation if necessary): What is the planetʼs mass? What is the planetʼs density? What is the planets gravity (compared to Earthʼs gravity)? How does this planet affect the weight of a 100 kg person? Be specific. What is the planetʼs average temperature (C or ºF)? Highest temperature(C or ºF)? Lowest temperature (C or ºF)? Surface Pressure? Details on your Planet Describe in detail what your planet looks like. What is your planet made of? Atmosphere (list all the gases and percentages if you can find them)? Core? Surface? Does your planet have any moons or rings? Describe them below. Does your planet have any weather systems (storms, precipitation, etc..)? What is it like on the surface? Describe them below. Weather Surface Conditions Has water been found on your planet? If so, describe where it is located and what form it is in (solid, liquid, gas). What space missions have studied your planet? (satellites, probes, landers) Briefly describe what each mission discovered about your planet. Mission/Date Information gathered What space missions have studied your planet? (satellites, probes, landers) Briefly describe what each mission discovered about your planet. Mission/Date Information gathered Living on this Planet If humans were going to live on this planet, what adaptations would we need? Would it be easy to live on this planet without any adaptations? Explain. Would it be easy to live on this planet with adaptations? Explain. What kinds of aliens could live on this planet? What kind of air does your alien breathe? What kind of adaptations does your alien have to survive the temperatures? What will your alien eat and how will it get its food/water? Will your alien have any self defense/camouflage? What will it look like? Name_________________________________________Period________ iMovie Planet Tour Directions: • • • • • • • • • After you have finished collecting data on your planet you are ready to begin your iMovie Planet Tour. Open up the program iMovie on your computer. Make sure that you click on “file --> new project” in order to start your project. Name your project. Do not use a preset iMovie theme. Find images that you would like to include in your tour and put them into iPhoto. You may want to create a folder to put in all your images of your planet. Click and drag them into your project library. (Make sure that you put them into your tour in the order that you want them to appear). In the lower right hand corner of the page, there will be an image of a camera. This will bring your iPhoto library into the program and you can then click and drag the photos into the media section of iMovie. Add a voice over narration (click on microphone and follow directions) to navigate through your tour. You may need to lengthen the slide/image time. It is preset to 4 seconds, but by clicking on the little 4 near the slide, you can change the time. 8 seconds is suggested. To add text, click on the “T” in the lower right hand corner near the camera icon. Click and drag the type of text that you want over the clip that you want to have the text. This is a great way to add facts to your tour. Add transitions (rectangle with triangles icon in lower right) between images if you have any extra time or you finish early. When completely finished, save your iMovie to your flash drive. Make sure you also save a copy to your teacherʼs flash drive. (“Share” --> “Export Movie” and click on your flash drive). Suggested Requirements: All planets: Planet Name Where planet is located (near what constellation right now) Can we see this planet at night right now? Basic Facts (Day/Year, Distance from Sun, mass, density) Appearance of Planet Rings or moons and how many Inner planets only: Add multiple pictures showing different types Outer planets only: of information about the planet Major Moon Selected to Focus On Weather, Atmosphere, and Surface Appearance of Moon Information Weather, Atmosphere, and Surface Information on Explorations Missions to that Information Planet Water on Moon Water on Planet **THERE SHOULD BE A PICTURE FOR EACH PIECE OF INFORMATION. MAKE SURE TO ADD TEXT TO HELP THE CLASS LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR PLANET.
