Prostate Cancer Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and is the second largest cause of male cancer deaths in UK. Every hour one man dies from prostate cancer and over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. It's estimated that by 2030, prostate cancer will be the most common cancer. Despite these figures, the level of awareness, understanding and support for prostate cancer lags significantly behind that of women’s health causes. One in eight men in the UK will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime The average age for men to be diagnosed with prostate cancer is between 70 and 74 years More than 100 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every day Signs and symptoms The symptoms of both benign enlargement of the prostate gland and malignant tumours (cancer) are similar and can include any of the following: difficulty passing urine passing urine more frequently than usual, especially at night pain when passing urine blood in the urine (this is not common) If you have any of these symptoms it’s important to get them checked by your doctor. But remember, most enlargements of the prostate are not cancer. *Please note these statistics are taken from external websites such as Cancer Research UK.
