Europe….!that Constantinople would fall & that it would not be safe for pilgrims to go to Holy Land Pope!Urban!II….!held the Council at Clermont and urged Christians to go on a holy war to take Jerusalem and Palestine for the Christians =& Who!won!in!Spain?! Christians What!happened!to!the!Christian!Byzantine!Empire?!! Conquered by Muslims - became the Ottoman Empire ! 1st,!2nd,!3rd,!etc! Crusade!to!the!Holy! Land! Effects!on!Christian!Europe! Christians drove Muslims out of Spain. MOnarchs became more powerful. New foods, clothing materials, and new ways of doing things were brought back to Europe. Created a renewed interest in Roman art and architecture. Effects!on!Muslims! Unknown number killed in fighting and massacres. Created a distrust of Christians and their intentions. Lost Spain in Reconquista. But, began trading with Europe. Effects!on!Jews! Faced persecution and massacres (esp. during 1st Crusade.) Some people became jealous because of their wealth and this sometimes resulted in violence against Jewish communities. Creation of ghettos. Impact!on!our!World!Today:! All 3 groups are still finding it difficult to coexist. Holy Land is still in dispute, but between Muslims and Jews. Tension in some areas of world between Muslims and Christians. Individuals resort to violence.
