Expected English/VFA Time Management of Homework/Study
All Sacajawea students are expected to read IR books at least 30 minutes each day and
complete AR Quizzes to prove reading comprehension. Reading can be done during SATime, in
English class when all other class work has been finished both early and in a quality manner, on
the bus, while waiting for sports/activities to begin, etc…Opportunities to read are endless!
Parents/Guardians, please take your family activities, responsibilities, and obligations into
account and help your student come up with an appropriate plan for completing weekly course
work. The following schedule is a suggestion. Thank you.
Saturday:
Complete VFA Workbook lesson (30-60 min.)
Sunday:
Complete VFA Sentence Draft (30-60 min.)
Monday:
Complete Fab. Five (due Friday) (15-30 min.)
Use class notes and grammar resources posted online. Seek additional help from
peers or during SATime well before Friday’s due date, if you need it.
Tuesday:
Revisit the VFA Sentences that you wrote on Sunday (30 min.)
Are they labeled appropriately? Did you complete the assignment correctly? Is
there anything you can do to show your English teacher that you have exceeded
the objectives of the assignment?
Wednesday: Study for the VFA Quiz / Roots Quiz that may take place on Thursday (30 min.)
Thursday:
Study and complete homework as needed.
Friday:
Study and complete homework as needed.

Checklist for VFA Lesson Completion
1. SATURDAY, complete the assigned weekly lesson.
a. Read the definitions of each word. Make flashcards and memorize the meanings.
This can be done by hand or using Quizlet.
b. After definitions are memorized, you will practice applying your new knowledge
by completing the rest of the lesson components. Be sure to work through each
section of the lesson, going back to the definition to double check the meaning
and derivative(s) as needed.
2. SUNDAY, complete VFA Student Usage Sentence Assignment Draft. Note that the final
draft must be written in blue or black pen or typed, printed, and turned in. If word
processed, it is the student’s responsibility to print sentences for turn in. Your roughdraft should be pre-written in pencil first before making your final draft.
a. Each VFA word portion must include the following:
i. The VFA word, which is underlined.
ii. The correct part(s) of speech.
iii. An accurate definition of the VFA word expressed in your own words.
iv. A sentence that uses the word correctly and demonstrates that you clearly
understand the meaning of the word.
v. All written work must be of the highest quality.
vi. Spelling correctly is important.
vii. The paper should be need and organized.
3. TUESDAY, revisit your VFA Student Usage Sentence Assignment Draft.
a. Work through the following questions to improve your writing.
i. Are they labeled appropriately?
ii. Did you complete the assignment correctly? Double check your checklist.
iii. Can you rewrite any of these sentences to include MBWs?
iv. Is there anything you can do to show your English teacher that you have
exceeded the objectives of the assignment?
v. Finally, rewrite your sentences on a fresh sheet of paper using your
best handwriting in blue or black ink, or type your sentences and
print them out. Be sure to label MBWs and Sentence Types!
