ThisSummertherearenumerousthingsthatyoucandotoprepareyourselfforansimpleandcreative year.FailuretotakethesestepsthisSummerwillmakenextyearrushedandaffectyourabilitytobe relaxandcreate. ThereareFourassessmentsinIBtheatreandeachofthemrequiresyoutohavesomebackground researchandsomechoicestobemadebeforeyoubegin.ThefourassessmentsandyourSummer assignmentsareasfollows: 1)DIRECTOR’SNOTEBOOK- Thedirector’snotebookisadocumentdevelopedbythedirectorpriortorehearsalsandanymeetings withtheperformersorproductionteam. Itisarecordofthedirector’spersonalprocessofinterpretingtheplay,developingadirectorialintention andanideaofwhatimpactheorshewantstheplaytohaveonanaudience.Thedirectorbeginsto thinkabouthowparticularmomentsmaybestagedusingelementsofperformanceandproduction. ASSIGNMENT:ThisSummeryouwillneedtoselectaplaytextthatyouaregoingtoworkwithnextyear andreadthroughitatleasttwotimes.Foralistofpossibletexts,pleaseseethe2016/17CHSIBTheatre FacebookpageorcontactMr.Beckett. 2)COLLABORATIVEPROJECT Thecollaborativecreationoforiginaltheatreinvolvesagroupoftheatremakers(creators,designers, directorsandperformers)whoworktogetherpracticallytoexamineanddevelopideasinorderto generatetheatricalmaterialthatisthenstructuredandorganizedintoapieceoftheatre. Thepieceoftheatreisrehearsedandpresentedtoanaudience. Therearethreepartstothisprocess,althoughthesearesometimesrunconcurrently. •Creating,generatinganddevelopingtheatricalmaterial •Organizingandstructuringthematerialintoapieceoftheatre •Preparing(productionandperformance),rehearsingandpresentingthepieceforanaudience Thepieceoftheatrethathasbeencreatedisnotnecessarilyscriptedintraditionalforms. Unlikeplaytext–basedtheatrewrittenbyaplaywright(s),collaborativelycreatedtheatreisoften developedbytheperformanceandproductionteamthatalsostageitandpresentit. Thecollaborativecreationoforiginaltheatreisalsooftenreferredtoasdevising. Performanceconvention Aperformanceconventionisasignificantandidentifiableelementofperformancethatisusually culturallyrecognized,acceptedandidentifiedasakeyfeatureofthetheatretradition.Performance conventionshaveaparticularfunctionwithinatraditionandareakeyfeatureofcommunicationtothe audience.Manyconventionsareuniquetotheirtheatretradition,althoughsomemayappearinsimilar formbutwithsignificantvariationsinotherworldtheatretraditions. Momentoftheatre Amomentoftheatreisashortandconcentratedtheatricalpresentationusedtodemonstratea particularidea,actionornarrative. Theatretheorist Atheatretheoristisatheatrepractitionerwhohascontributedtotheshapinganddevelopmentof theatrethroughhisorherpublishedworkandideas(primarysources).Inaddition,therearepublished worksbyothers(secondarysources)regardingthetheatretheorist’scontributions,ideasandtheimpact theyhavehadontheatrepractice,signifyingthatthetheatretheorist’sworkhashadimplications beyondhisorherownpracticeandanimpactontheatreingeneral.Theatretheoristswilloftenpresent frameworks,approaches,techniquesandmodelsofpractice.Theywilloftendevelopexistingtheatre practiceorshedanewlightonit,aswellasinnovatingnewformsandapproaches. Solotheatrepiece Asolotheatrepieceisapieceoftheatrecreated,designed,directedandperformedbyanindividual. Theatretheory Theatretheoryrelatestoideasthatinformthecreation,performanceandpresentationoftheatre.It encompassesideasabouttheatreasanartform,genre,style,theatreprocessesandtheatrepractices. Anaspectoftheatretheory Anaspectoftheatretheoryreferstooneparticularstrandofatheatretheorist’swork.Itmaybean idea,aprocess,aseriesofexercises,astylisticelement,aconvention,atechniqueoranapproach.
