Bridge Medical Centre - Infection Protection and Control Annual Statement June 2015
Our aim is to promote a safe environment for staff patients and visitors in accordance with National and
Local Guidelines.
Purpose

An annual statement will be generated each year in June and will summarise:-

Details of any infection transmission incidents and action taken.

Details of any infection control audits undertaken and action taken.

Details of any infection control risk assessments under taken.

Staff Training

Review and update of policies/procedures/guidelines that may be required.
The infection control Leads are Dr Nigel Mohabir, Lead Nurse, Ann Pleasance, Decontamination Lead HCA,
Stephanie Ginestet, Environmental Leads, Practice Manager Sharon Harrison, Dr Mohabir, Ann Pleasance.
Training: Ann Pleasance attended 2 day infection Control training in April 2015.
Independent Infection Prevention and Control training company gave a presentation to all practice staff
and partners in May 2015.
Significant Events
Following Care Quality Commission (CQC) visit in April 2015 several areas within the practice relating to
Infection Control were found to be below the required standard. These issues are now being addressed at
the time of writing this statement.
Audits
1.
Infection Prevention and Control audit and staff training has been carried out in May by an
independent company and we are continuing the process of implementing improvement / changes
as recommended.
2.
Improvements in cleaning specification, frequencies and cleanliness of equipment. Improved
documentation has been established. New post created (Decontamination Lead)
3.
A Legionella risk assessment has been carried out by a specialist independent company Week 2 of
June. Our water tanks and pipes are free from Legionella
Policies/procedures/guidelines are being reviewed at the present time and on-going throughout the
year. Amendments will be made as current advice changes.
4. We have removed all Gel from public places. Gel is available from front desk and in all Consulting
rooms. A risk assessment was made after a report received stating a child in another surgery had
accidently squirted the gel into his eyes while using a wall mounted dispenser
There have been no reported infection transmission incidents
