• Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by bacteria called Bacillus anthracis. Infection in
humans most often involves the skin, the gastrointestinal tract, or the lungs.
•Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by contact with animals carrying bacteria called
Brucella.
•Cholera is an infection of the small intestine that causes a large amount of watery
diarrhea.
•Plague is caused by the organism Yersinia pestis. Rodents, such as rats, spread the disease
to humans.
•Q fever is a bacterial infection that can affect the lungs, liver, heart, and other parts of the
body.
•Tularemia is an infection common in wild rodents. It is transmitted to humans by contact
with infected animal tissues or by ticks, biting flies, and mosquitoes
