The integrated fire telephone handset enables secure, full duplex emergency voice communication with outstation handsets on a fire telephone network. The emergency voice communication system (EVCS) provides assistance to fire fighters during emergencies in high-rise buildings, particularly in situation were radio communication may get disrupted. VELOX 4000 INT is ideal for medium-, and large-scale installations in properties ranging from but not limited to commercial and residential spaces such as hotels, malls, and apartments; infrastructure developments such as airports and railway stations; and special-purpose buildings such as schools and places of worship. PHYSICAL CONSTRUCTION & ASSEMBLY The 4200 INT, 4400 INT and 4800 INT control panels are made of metal and provide the option of surface or flush mounting and different finishes such as stainless steel or RAL colors. Sufficient mounting knockouts are provided to accommodate all wiring requirements. The control panel housing has IP30 protection and restricts access to the control buttons without a key or special tool. The front-side of the panel has a graphic LCD screen with LED status indicators, control buttons, alphanumeric keypad, and navigation buttons. The fire alarm control panels are available as part of an integrated unit comprising the panel itself, paging microphone for public address and voice alarm, and fire telephone master handset for emergency communications, all housed in a steel enclosure. Depending on requirements, the 4200 INT and 4400 INT can either be used as stand-alone fire alarm control panels or expanded to have integrated voice evacuation and voice communications features. The panel has two 12V batteries installed at the bottom of the enclosure for standby operation up to 24 hours, followed by 30 minutes of alarm. The enclosure can house larger batteries for a 72-hour backup, followed by 30 minutes of alarm. The integrated paging microphone console is attached with a monitored handheld microphone for addressing all zones. Three LED indicators show the operational statuses of the console, such as evacuation, fault, and power. An in-built loudspeaker makes it possible to listen to all system generated messages and announcements. The integrated fire telephone handset finished in brushed stainless steel comprises a 12-key keypad, high-contrast display, and 8 LED status indicators. 2 TECHNOLOGY The analogue addressable fire alarm control panel displays the address, type, and status of each device on the loop. Each fire detection loop can accommodate up to 240 fire alarm devices with in-built isolators, and the loop length can extend up to 6 km depending on load and loop length calculations. Programming options allow a user to assign zones to fire detection and alarm devices on the loop and furthermore link them with actions such as fire or fault signals and voice messages to be initiated when the devices are in the alarm mode by means of advanced AND/OR logic operations. Various parameters of devices on the loop can be set and controlled from the control panel. Detectors can be programmed to operate with different sensitivity levels and sounders can be synchronised from the panel. The control panel also indicates the loop output and input voltages, loop loading, and signalling quality. The loop driver circuit on the base card is equipped with in-built short circuit isolators to ensure uninterrupted communication between the panel and first device on the loop. Each fire detection and alarm device on the loop is equipped with an in-built isolator to minimize loss of communication in case of short circuits. Hence there’s no need for additional isolators or base isolators. Alternatively, devices can be supplied without isolators. In such cases, isolators will have to be installed on the loop. The fire alarm control panel allows programming of complex ‘cause & effect’ functionalities to either a single output device or group of output devices (sounders, beacons, relays) to respond to a fire or alarm signal for input devices. Up to 200 output groups on a network of 1000 zones can be programmed from the control panel. Delays can be introduced to allow phased evacuation in a building. ATEÏS Variable Time Communication (VTC) Protocol enables secure data transmission over long distances. Advanced detection algorithms ensure thorough evaluation of the environments in which the detectors are placed, and thus, fire signals are activated only when smoke is actually present. The integrated paging microphone console on the fire alarm control panel is wired to the master audio distribution matrix or digital signal processor on the PAVA rack, enabling the operator to monitor all loudspeaker circuits, zones, and amplifiers for faults. In large networks with multiple PAVA racks, the paging microphone console on the 4000 INT allows selection of any loudspeaker zone for public addressing and isATEÏS Middle East FZCO. P.O. INSTALLATION & MOUNTING The touch screen paging microphone console can be programmed to enable quick access to various zones or groups of zones through customizable buttons on the touch pad. The buttons can be assigned to different zones or zone groups by naming them accordingly. Additionally, the buttons can perform additional functions such as volume control, priority settings, message activation, and so on. The fire telephone handset allows the operator to communicate with outstation handsets by dialling the number of the outstation handset. The name or number of the outstation handset is indicated on the backlit display. The fire telephone master handset on the 4000 INT series of fire alarm control panels is connected to an eightline exchange which links the outstation handsets with the master handset. An addressable telephone jack can be used to link the fire detection loop of the control panel and the fire telephone network via the 8 line exchange. Similar to all devices on a fire panel loop, the telephone jack is fully monitored from the control panel and a unique address is assigned to it. Installing the jack on the fire panel loop supports emergency voice communications via the fire telephone network by using a portable handset. Furthermore, security and ‘cause and effect’ features are significantly enhanced if the telephone jack is monitored on the fire panel loop. APPROVALS & COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS The VELOX 4000 INT range of integrated fire alarm control panel and PAVA systems has BSI Kitemark, TUV, and LPCB certifications, and it complies with the following British and European standards. BS EN 54-2:1998 (Fire detection and fire alarm systems. Control and indicating equipment) BS EN 54-4:1998 (Fire detection and fire alarm systems. Power supply equipment) BS EN 60849:1998 (Sound systems for emergency purposes) Membership No.472288644 ATEÏS Middle East FZCO. Loop driver cards must be installed in the fire alarm control panel to expand the number of loops. A base card in the control panel has slots (2 slots and 4 slots for 4200 INT and 4400 INT, respectively) allotted for installation of loop driver cards, which can easily be guided in place on the base card. Each loop starts and terminates on the base card of the control panel and it is wired to the pairs of loop out and loop in terminals. This loop configuration in which the wires return to the same control panel provides the highest redundancy for communication as per the NFPA Class A, Style 7 wiring. The in-built isolators ensure that under a single short circuit fault condition, all devices will continue to operate as normal. For additional functions, the control panels have provision for installing peripheral cards via an RS485 bus interface to expand the number of inputs and outputs as per increasing requirements for ‘cause & effect’ functions. A mimic panel can be mounted on the fire alarm control panel to provide a graphical representation of zones using LED indicators. The mimic panel layout with LED indicators is designed on the basis of a standard CAD drawing of a zone. Zonal LED indicators can be mounted on the panel to simultaneously display the status of all zones under fire conditions. The mimic panel and fire alarm control panel can be further customized for smoke control applications with additional LEDs and switches for manual control of doors, vents, lifts, etc., as required. The integrated paging microphone consoles can have either monochrome or colour touch screens. The devices have dedicated and secured audio and communication links. To increase the distance between the paging console and the PAVA rack, a local power supply is required. COMMISSIONING & TESTING The ‘Soft Addressing’ feature or ‘Auto Learn’ option on the panel when selected enables the control panel to automatically record the total number of addresses and devices on a loop. The panel notifies the user if it finds devices missing or replaced then registers the new status of the loop according to the options selected by the user. Soft Addressing allows automatic sequential addressing of devices (1–240) on the loop from the fire alarm control panel, simplifying the commissioning process. The last sequenced address should correspond to the total number of devices installed on the loop, as recorded when ‘Auto Learn’ is activated. P.O. This allows the addressing to match site conditions or even allows the user to add more detectors to the loop at a later stage without the need to change or reassign addresses to all the devices. Each device on the loop or a fire zone can have a text description beside its name when displayed on the fire alarm control panel. This provides clear indication of the location and description of a zone or device in fire or fault conditions and enables commissioning, testing and maintenance engineers to track the source of a problem and take appropriate action. Individual detectors can be tested by selecting the address of the detector on the control panel and activating the ‘Test’ command. Alternatively, detectors can be tested physically on site by positioning a magnet on its base. The magnet test verifies the function of all electronic circuits of the detector and its communication with the control panel. The integrated paging microphone console is configured from the PAVA controller and matrix, which allows adjustment of the microphone sensitivity and speaker volume level. The input signal can be adjusted with a 3-band parametric equalizer. Priorities can be set for both the paging microphone console and the various messages supported by the console. Messages can be allocated in two categories–evacuation or normal. The message levels, priorities, equalization, and siren levels before activation of the message are set for optimum response.
