Fun Facts
1) The average person pees about 3000 times a year.
2) Most people, on average, would breathe about 6,286,920
times in their lifetime.
3) The human intestine is usually 27 feet long and 10 inches.
(8.5 meters long)
4) The average adult bladder can hold 16-24 ounces of urine.
5) A liver would be about 3 pounds in an average human.
6) The liver is rubbery to touch.
7) One kidney (aproximately) measures to about 4 inches.

The bladder is as big as your brain.
The Kidneys are half the size as your bladder.
An estimated 7,850,000,000,000 gallons of fluid passes through
the bladder and out through the urethra in the average person's
lifetime.
The Ureter is the size of a spaghetti noodle.
The liver produces 6,500 oz. of bile in a persons lifetime
As you urinate, your bladder starts to shrink only to grow larger
when it fills with urine.
A sign that you drank too much water is that your urine is a
medium cloudy yellow.
The kidneys have as much as 6,487,000,000 nephrons (things that
filter the blood) inside of them.
The Vein that leads to you kidney's is the biggest in the body.
The Human Excretory System Notes
The function of the
excretory system is
to excrete (get rid
of) wastes that are
not helpful to the
body.
Waste
• Wastes that are removed
include carbon dioxide,
water, salt, urea and uric
acid.
• All excreted wastes travel at
some time in the blood.
Structures of the Excretory System
1. Skin
2. Lungs
3. Liver
4. Large intestine
5. Urinary System
Skin
Wastes such as excess
water, salt, urea and uric
acid are removed from
the body in sweat.
Lungs
Excess carbon dioxide
waste is removed
from the body when
we exhale.
CO2
Liver
The liver is a part
of what other
system?
The digestive
system
Liver
The liver has many functions,
including (but not limited to):
1. to produce substances that break down fats
2. produce urea (the main substance of urine)
3. make certain amino acids (the building blocks
of proteins)
4. filter harmful substances from the blood
(such as alcohol)
5. The liver is also responsible for producing
cholesterol. It produces about 80% of the
cholesterol in your body.
The Liver and Waste
• The liver produces
urea and uric acid
as a by-product of
the breakdown of
proteins.
• Urea and uric acid
are sent to the
kidneys to be
processed.
Liver
Large Intestine
• The large intestine
removes solid,
undigested food from
the body after it
passes through the
digestive system.
• Waste is stored in
rectum until it is
excreted from the
body as solid waste.
The urinary system
• The kidneys filter the
blood to form urine,
which is excess water,
salt, urea and uric acid.
