Duties and Responsibilities: Intern will be involved in initial workshop followed by a supervised internship Hands on experience in healthcare-associated infection prevention and control, surveillance and infectious disease epidemiology Program will provide an introduction to the Surveillance for Healthcare-Associated and Resistant Pathogens Unit at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Complete data entry as needed Classification _____________________ Qualitative and quantitative data analysis including large-scale data transfers, trend Salary Code ______________________ graphing, and statistical analysis. Analyses will be performed on data from: the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) MDHHS’s carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) Surveillance and Prevention Initiative the Special Pathogens Response Network (SPRN) technical assistance site visits Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) surveys/visits. Intern will have an opportunity to contribute to summary and feedback data report development, distribution, and analysis. All other duties as assigned. Self-motivated, able to complete work in timely manner, and handle multiple tasks at one time under supervision. Knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, and data analysis; of spreadsheets and database software; of general record keeping and filing systems; and of basic mathematics preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with email/internet browser software. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Standard office environment. Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <50# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 25–75% of the time. IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS This position will provide training and education at the Masters level to develop and enhance healthcare–associated and resistant pathogen infectious disease surveillance. This area of Public Health is new and exemplifies an important issue in emerging infectious diseases across the country. The problems of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance were once thought to be confined to the hospital setting, but are now impacting the community. Employee will have a direct impact upon the healthcare facility and state-level HAI surveillance.
