During the examination, an x-ray arm sweeps in a
slight arc over the breast, as it takes multiple breast
images in just seconds. A computer produces a 3D
image of the breast tissue in one millimeter layers
or “slices.” Fine details are more visible, no longer
hidden by tissue above and below.
