DIVISION: Technology BUSINESS UNIT: Henley TV Facilities POSITION: News Broadcast IT Specialist REPORT LINE: Technology Manager: News Facilities SALARY SCALE CODE: 300 MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION The position needs to administer, install, configure, repair and support the Broadcast Media Network/s of the News Facilities Local area network (LAN). Maintain network hardware and software. Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users. Perform necessary maintenance to support network availability thereby ensuring the Broadcast Networks high performance, security, backups and redundancy for on air operational broadcasts 24 hours a day. May need to supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Perform, plan and control the efficient preventative and corrective maintenance and repair of computer/ network equipment and network domain/s to provide optimal functionality, whilst ensuring adherence to manufacturing specifications. Monitor system & network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and provide security measures, troubleshooting and maintenance as needed. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when and where necessary. Perform and maintain data backups, disaster recovery operations and system imaging. Plan contingencies, plan and apply back –up strategies and develop their implementations Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system and make purchase recommendations to improve systems and network configuration. Supporting broadcast networks and automation, hardware and software. Maintaining integration between different broadcast media servers. Configure and install facilities/ servers/ computers, networks & broadcast equipment / integration, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and optimal delivery on client’s needs and requirements. Plan, coordinate, and implement IT security measures. Sound administration, ensuring accurate registering of changes, faults, time, costs and solutions. Update and maintain technical documentation and plans for future reference. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Physical attributes: Excellent hearing and eyesight (no colour blindness). Physically able. S4 Information Technology, National diploma in Information Technology or equivalent engineering qualification. MCSE certification or equivalent may be considered. 5 Years experience in technical maintenance & fault finding of broadcasting equipment within a Broadcast Environment. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team and lead the team if required. Good understanding of the workings of a TV studio and/or TV Facility. Knowledge of Broadcast Media/ Video server environment. Software development, VB, .Net and MSSQL / MS Access is a requirement for at least one of the positions. Ability to work under pressure in particular - live television studio environment. Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, shifts and adapt to circumstances. The ability to work independently, in a team and be self motivated is essential. Proficient in MS Office, i.e. Excel, Word and Power Point. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT/EXPERIENCE Software development, VB, .Net and MSSQL / MS Access can be an advantage. Knowledge and experience of Broadcast Media/ Video server environment. Knowledge, experience & understanding of digital television file formats. Knowledge, experience & understanding of HP hardware. Experience in repairs of broadcasting equipment, understanding of broadcast standards. Knowledge, experience & understanding of IT platforms of broadcast servers; Omneon, Quantel EVS and AVID with Omnibus Automation and Control and broadcast hardware. Allowing the knowledgebase to cover Apple Macs and new emerging technologies, using various operating systems; Windows, MAC OS, Linux and VX Works. The ability to work independently, in a team and be self motivated is essential. Proficient in MS Office, i.e. Excel, Word and Power Point.
