Your benefits: Flexible due to a wide speed setting range
ƒ Wide speed setting range of 1:24 (without field weakening)
ƒ Full torque over a broad speed range – also without a separate fan

• With integrated fan: The torque must be reduced
below 60 r/min
• Otherwise: Separate fan

The applications
ƒ For variable-speed-applications, e.g.:
– Turn tables
– Storage and retrieval units
– Lift tables
– Conveyors with lower duty cycle
– Pumps/fans
– Rapid action doors...
ƒ Space and cost saving alternative to inverter-driven
IE2-motors (ErP-directive)

Textile machine
ƒ Winding Application
ƒ Customer requirement:
– Fulfillment of the efficiency-directive
while using no more space
ƒ Solution:
– Inverter Motor
“Meeting the ErP-directive without a
bigger motor size makes the MFmotor to the perfect solution for the
customer.”
ƒ Success factors:
– Compactness: Conventional IE2-motors
are bigger and do not fit in the machine.
– A modification of the machine was not
necessary.
– Inverter Motors are not affected by the
efficiency-directive.

Heavy duty twister
ƒ Winding machine for production of rope yarns
and industrial fibers
ƒ Customer requirement:
– Fulfillment of the efficiency-directive while
using no more space (e. g. in the USA,
EU)
– Compactness
ƒ Success factors:
– Robust and small size
– Because of ErP these motors would have
been with a bigger volume and there
wasn’t space.
– Inverter Motor can be used all over the
world.
• Especially in USA, where IE3 are
common.

Application(s):
ƒ
–
Roll conveyor, chain conveyor, link conveyor, chain slide, lifting table, turntable, turnstile
–
Periodic duty
–
Potential of deep freeze
Customer requirement:
–
ƒ
Compactness, variant reduction, decentralized drive technology
Success factors:
–
Needed all three motor technologies
–
Decentralized drive technology
• assembly time reduced by 50% while the total costs stay the same
–
Generally benefits of a frequency inverter
• soft acceleration and retard for unsecured pallets = gentle handling
–
Smaller construction volume of the drive packages
–
Energy-efficiency (Inverter Motors + VFCeco are an economical alternative.)
–
Wide speed setting range: variant reduction, which causes a reduction of costs for
warehousing and reorders

ƒ Customer requirement:
– Wide speed setting range
– Dynamic
ƒ Success factors:
– Wide speed setting range
– Well balanced ratio of external and internal
masses (optimal load matching factor)
– Optimal cost-performance ratio

Successful projects
ƒ First projects show great success, e.g.
• Intralogistics: Roller conveyor/chain conveyor
• Machine building: Rotary indexing table
• Gate-manufacturer: Gate-drives
• Bakery machines: Filling-drive
• Pump motor
ƒ Feedback:
– „Significant higher dynamics than a standard motor.“
– „Standard motors of the sizes 71..90 can be replaced by
an Inverter motor of size 71, i.e. reduced variance, reduced
stocks, larger batches => better price“
– „The Inverter motor can replace a 2-pole standard motor
almost 1:1 without big changes of the pump geometry.“
– „The motor fits perfectly to the machine concept due to its
features.“

FAQ
ƒ Why is the nominal voltage lower than 230V/400V?
– Especially at inverter operation, the full mains voltage is sometimes not
available at the motor terminals (inverter losses, long cables etc.). Due
to this, a small voltage reserve was considered, when the L-force AC
motors MF were designed.
– This voltage reserve may also be used for acceleration up to nominal
speed (as for a classical servo motor).
– Depending on the motor type, the nominal voltage of the MF-motors
varies by a few volts. Cause: The wire number of the motor winding was
choosen that the motor will be utilized at the best. This results in an
optimal efficiency.

FAQ
ƒ Why has the permissible torque to be reduced below 20Hz?
– Below 20Hz, the motor and blower speed is so low, that the motor
cooling has to be reduced.
– To use the full nominal torque below 20Hz, a seperate fan may be used
(available as an option).

Compactness + Wide speed setting range = Standardizing
ƒ
With the wide speed setting range of 1:24, many applications with different speeds can be
solved by one geared motor-variant.
ƒ
By using a frequency inverter, the speed can be adjusted to the application exactly.
Several different gear ratios are not necessary anymore.
ƒ
The wide speed setting range results in standardizing. Storage costs and purchasing
effort will be reduced.
ƒ
Inverter motors provide a significant higher output power than conventional AC motors of
the same size.
