Creating Web Pages in Word OverView With the proliferation of Internet use, the day may come when you have to create a Word document to place on the Web. The most common data files you create and save in Word are document files that have the file extension .doc. It is possible to save a Word file as an html file, the format required for the Internet. Other programs such as Front Page and Dream Weaver are dedicated to being full-powered HTML editors. Word has limited HTML capabilities. Recall that HTML stands for hypertext markup language, the recognized language of the World Wide Web. Any file ending in .htm or .html can be opened in a browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. HTML code stands behind the scenes of your document.
