CD-79F-2-SERIES NARROW DIFFERENTIAL THERMOSTATS Description This device is a thermostat, providing temperature control for hearings applications. A thermally sensitive bimetal snap-element switches when it reaches a pre-set response temperature or a fixed current level, opening the circuit. Current flows through the bimetal element, giving a combination of temperature and current protection. Heat transfer occurs from all sides through convection or radiation. Features 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) Tight differential, excellent temperature control Current and temperature sensitivity for maximum design flexibility Wide selection of leads and insulating sleeves Same side or opposite side terminations Miniature size Positive make and break with snap-action disc Reliable temperature performance over life of thermostat Applications 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) Automotive seat heaters Electric heaters Water heaters Anti-freeze sensors Blanket heaters Defrost heaters Display cases Technical Data VOLTAGE 120 V AC contact arrangement normally closed Standard contact resistance Standard response temperature range Standard tolerance Approvals received / applied for CURRENT RATING Life expectancy (switching cycles) (cosψ = 1.0, resistive loads) 5A 100.000 --------------o---------------o--------------<50 mΩ +50°C to +185C° +/-3 °C +/-5 °C UL / VDE +/-7 °C +/-10°C Phone: (330) 966-3796 Fax: (330) 244-0190 5758 Foxboro Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44718 [email protected] www.calcoelectric.com CD-79F-2-SERIES NARROW DIFFERENTIAL THERMOSTATS Installation Notes When installing the thermostat, good heat transfer must be insured. The heat sensitive side of the switch (the base) should be positioned on the heat source. Heat-conducting paste or lacquer improves heat transfer. Please note that in the standard version the thermostat has an electrically live housing, and that when electrically insulated, the thermal protector's effective switching temperature can be affected by reduced heat transfer through the insulation. This should be kept in mind when selecting the appropriate temperature setting. Temperature Set-Points / Tolerance Temperatures graduated in 5C° increments Tolerance, see “technical data” Switching hysteresis 2C° to 10C° differential Other differentials available, contact a sales engineer Rate of temperature change from 0.1C° min. to max. 1.0C° /min. Insulation decreases the thermal protector’s response time Special response and reset temperatures available on request Leads The temperature rating of the connecting leads covers the nominal response temperature of the cutout as a minimum. It also corresponds to the appropriate insulation class and dielectric strength. Leads or solid wires are available in various lengths, cross-sections and qualities.
