PEOPLE Logic Gates Activity Circuit for the NOT Gate: NOT Gate The picture above shows the NOT gate symbol, where the letter A represents the input and the letter Y represents the output. The pin configuration of the 7404 NOT Gate IC is shown below: Fill in the Truth Table below for the NOT gate: In the pin configuration diagram, circle the pins which are the inputs, draw a slash through the pins which are the outputs, draw a star on the positive polarity pin, and draw a triangle on the ground pin. Practice with the NOT logic gate: 1) Place the 7404 in the breadboard. 2) Connect Pin7 (GND) to 0V and Pin14 (Vcc) to +5V. 3) According to the circuit shown on the next page, connect the Input "A" to Data Switch SW4 (or any other switcher of your choice) and connect the Output "Y" to the LED display. 4) Turn on the power of the ID-800 and turn the Data switch SW4 from "0" to "1" and back to "0", observe the output of the NOT Gate for each situation, then record it in the table on the next page. Hints: 1) For all of these exercises, the 0 in the left column(s) correspond(s) to the situation where the switch is open to GND, and the 1 in the A column corresponds to the situation where the switch is open to VCC (+5V). 2) Your answer for each box in the right column will always be a 0 or a 1. “0” means low voltage (i.e. the LED did not light up.) “1” means high voltage (i.e. the LED lit up.) AND Gate Circuit for the AND Gate: The picture above shows the AND gate symbol, where the letters A and B represent the inputs and the letter Y represents the output. The pin configuration of the 74LS08 AND Gate IC is shown below: Fill in the Truth Table below for the AND gate: How many AND gates does the 74LS08 contain?_______ Circle all of the inputs for the AND gates on the pin diagram Practice with the AND logic gate: 1) Place the 7408 in the Breadboard. 2) Connect Pin7 (GND) to 0V and Pin14 (Vcc) to +5V. 3) According to circuit shown on the next page, connect the Input "A" to Data Switch SW4 and the Input "B" to Data Switch SW2 (or any other switchers of your choice) and connect Output "Y" to the LED display. 4) Turn the power of the ID-800 and turn Data switchers SW4 and SW2 from "0" to "1" and back to "0", observe the output of the AND gate for each situation, then record it in the table on the next page. OR Gate: Circuit for the OR gate: The picture above shows the OR gate symbol, where the letters A and B represent the inputs and the letter Y represents the output. The pin configuration of the 74LS32 OR Gate IC is shown below: Fill in the Truth Table below for the OR gate: Draw a slash through the output pins on the pin diagram Practice with the OR logic gate: 1) Place the 74LS32 in the breadboard. NOR Gate Circuit for the NOR gate: The picture above shows the NOR gate symbol, where the letters A and B represent the inputs and the letter Y represents the output. The pin configuration of the74LS02 NOR Gate IC is shown below: Fill in the Truth Table below for the NOR gate: Practice with the NOR logic gate: 1) Place the 74LS02 in the breadboard. NAND Gate Circuit for the NAND gate: The picture above shows the NAND gate symbol, where the letters A and B represent the inputs and the letter Y represents the output. The pin configuration of the 74LS00 NAND Gate IC is shown below: Fill in the Truth Table below for the NAND gate: Is pin #11 an input, output or something else? ________________ Practice with the NAND logic gate: 1) Place the 74LS00 in the breadboard.
