HOW DOES THE GRAPH CONNECTS TO
EVOLUTION?
• EVOLUTION: The change of organisms due to a difference in genetic variation
to adapt to the changing earth around them
• WHAT IS ADAPTATION: Any anatomical structure; chemical
make up (physiological); or behavioral change that enables an
organism to live in it’s environment (talk about the bean seed
(plant) or sickle cell anemia (animal))
Some examples of adaptations in animals
• Lizard: Water conservation: thick skin; urates (chalk)
• Migratory birds: Hyperphagic- change in hormonal levels which causes the birds to
eat more food so that, excess energy is stored as fat in preparation for their journey
• Bats: Nocturnal creatures, which means they're active at night- conserves energy
since their thin, black wing membranes may cause excessive heat absorption in
daylight hours, which could lead to dehydration
