Types of Rainfall
Your easy guide to Convectional,
Frontal & Relief Rainfall!!!
Convectional Rainfall
Moisture rises whether it be the sea
or a large mass of water. The
moisture that is warm rises then
cools to form a cloud of moisture.
Then as the moisture continues to
cool it loses kinetic energy and falls
back to earth. This scenario often
happens in summer to create large
thunderstorms.
Frontal Rainfall
Frontal rainfall is far more common in our own country.
Cooler air (front) most across colliding with the Warm air
sending the less dense air upwards. The warm air is full of
moisture so forms a cloud as it cools until it is cooled so
much that the moisture particles group together and fall back
to earth!
Relief Rainfall
Relief rainfall is exactly what the
phrase means. Rainfall that occurs
over relief. The prevailing winds
blows moisture from a source. The
moisture has to rise as it cannot
move throw higher land. As it does
so it condenses and falls. In our
country it happens to the west of the
Pennines as our prevailing wind is
from the west.
