BACKOFFICE NT CONFIGURATION TO WORK WITH PLEX
Note: These instructions consider the use of Environment Manager which is installed
from Cool: Plex CD and does not make part of Default Installation.
o Go to: Start|Programs|Cool: Plex Application Server|Environment Manager.
o Enter the SERVER (SYSTEM) and press Refresh. This will display a list of all
the configured environments on the server.
To Add the ENVIRONMENT:
o Select Add|Environment, enter the Name, and press ‘Add N-Tier’.
o Configure its properties (by double-clicking on it):
From Plex’s help:
Search Path
The search path tells COOL:Plex in which directories to find your server functions. In
most cases, the search path comprises the build directory specified in the COOL:Plex NT
Build Service Manager and the build target subdirectory specified in the Windows NT
Build section of the Generate and Build Options dialog box.
Separate multiple directories with a semi-colon.
If you have move your application objects to a different directory on the server, then
specify the new location in the Search Path field.
Debug
Check this if you want to run your server processes in debug mode.
ODBC settings tab
Data Source Name
Enter the name of the data source to which you want to connect. There is no check to see
if this is a valid entry.
User ID
Enter the login id that you specified when you created the tables and views.
Password
Enter the case-sensitive password that you specified when you created the database.
Database
Optionally, you can enter a database name. If you leave this value blank, the database
name that you specified in the ODBC SQL Server Setup dialog box is used. If you do not
specify a database name in either location, then COOL:Plex uses the database that you
designated as the default for the specified login id in the Microsoft SQL Enterprise
Manager.
Refer to your SQL Server documentation for information
Error Logging
Toggles error logging on and off. If this option is deselected, you will not receive any
SQL Server error messages in the application log of the event viewer.
Default Connect
Select this if you want to use the Pattern Library methods to connect to the database.
Deselect this if your generated application will access multiple databases, as you will
need to create your own methods to connect.
Note: Datasource name is the DSN ENTRY that should be created on the NT Server to
access the target database.
Usually you can leave defaults in the remaining Oracle Settings, Special Field Values,
International Settings Tabs.
On Plex, Gen & Build Options|System Definitions select the system that you will use for
Compilation.
Enter information on:
Dialog box options
Build priorities
If you do not enter a value in these fields, the value defaults to the one entered in the
COOL:Plex NT Build Service registry. The maximum value specified in the COOL:Plex
NT Build Service registry may also override larger values specified in this section.
Table and view builds
Enter a value from 1 (high) to 15 (low) to specify a priority for your table and view builds
on the NT server.
Function builds
Enter a value from 1 (high) to 15 (low) to specify a priority for your function builds on
the NT server.
Execution on server
Enter a value from 1 (high) to 15 (low) to specify an execution priority for your function
builds on the NT server.
Server sub-directories
Build source
Your generated source and compiled objects will be placed in this directory on the server.
The specified directory name is created as a sub-directory of the OBBUILD directory. If
you do not enter a Build directory name, COOL:Plex uses OBBUILD as the default.
Build target
Your compiled objects will be created in this directory on the server. The specified
directory name is created as a sub-directory of the OBBUILD directory. If you do not
enter a Build directory name, COOL:Plex uses OBBUILD as the default.
RPC locator system
Enter the name of the server that is running the RPC locator service. This is usually the
same system that is running the COOL:Plex NT Build service.
NT ODBC Connection
Data Source
Enter the data source name for the SQL Server database that you are using. When you
build, this data source must exist on the server and be defined as a system data source.
Database User
Enter your user ID for the database that your data source is using.
Database Password
Enter your password for the database and user id that you entered.
NT Oracle Connection
Service
Enter the name or alias (service name) of the Oracle database in which database objects
will be created. When you request a build this database must already exist on the server.
Database User
Enter your user ID for the database.
Database Password
Enter your password for the database and user id that you entered.
o NT Configuration for Application’s INI Files.
On the INI File to specify the System/Environment your application will use
