MARZIO CONTI was born in Florence (Italy) . He began his career as a flautist and he made his debut as soloist playing in the Salzburg Festival 1981 with “I Solisti Veneti”. After 20 years as a flute soloist, Mr. Conti moved to the podium after a chance encounter with Piero Bellugi, the noted Italian conductor. Mr. Conti was his soloist at a concert at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino when Mr. Bellugi suggested him to try some conducting lessons. He did,and he quickly discovered a talent for leading orchestras. His career on the podium and in the pit quickly took off. He has served as principal guest conductor of the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese (L’Aquila) from 1998 to 2003 and after as principal conductor of the Orchestra Philarmonica of Turin and permanent conductor of the Teatro Marrucino of Chieti until December 2007 .From 2004 to the beginning of 2010 he was also the artistic director of the Orchestra Sinfonica of Sanremo. In 2006 he was appointed principal conductor of the Orquestra National d’Andorra. . Mr. Conti is regularly invited to conduct many major Italian and international orchestras. In Italy, he has appeared at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma , Teatro Comunale di Bologna,Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Bellini di Catania,Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano... Elsewhere, he has conducted the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Athens State Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra , Orquesta de la Comunitad de Madrid, Orquesta de la Gran Canaria, Orquesta Sinfonica de Bilbao,Orchestre de la Picardie, l’Orchestra di Cannes et Cote d’Azur, l’Orchestra Sinfonica di Oporto, Opera Rio de Janeiro, Saarbrucken Staatsoper and Dortmund Staatoper where among other pieces he led a much acclaimed performance of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." ... Mr. Conti has led orchestras during major concert seasons, including those of the Parco della Musica in Rome, the National Auditorium of Madrid and Palau de la Musica de Barcellona... He has colloborated with major international artists including Barbara Hendricks, Mischa Majsky,Midori, Boris Belkin, Lebeque, Natalia Gutman, Gary Hoffman, Renato Bruson, Leo Nucci, Carla Fracci , Patrice Bart.. He conducted “La Boheme" in a production at the Teatro del Giglio of Lucca for the Puccini Centenary Celebration in 2008, which was broadcast nationally on Italian television. His "Aida" at the Saarbrucken Festival in Germany was also hailed. In 2009 Mr. Conti conducted Tchaikovsky's “ Sleeping Beauty” opening the ballet season of the Teatro dell’Opera of Rome and the new production of Prokofiev's “Romeo and Juliet” at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo which will be published in DVD in 2011. Recently he conducted the internationally broadcast performances of Sergio Rendine's “Oratorio” as part of the Vatican Celebrations 2009 in San Paolo Cathedral in Rome. As a champion of contemporary music, he has also recorded Mr. Rendine's “Passio et Resurrectio” for Naxos. The label released the CD with Mr. Conti's performances of the composer's two symphonies. Mr. Conti's other recordings as a conductor include Nino Rota's symphonies ( Chandos ),the lyric poems of Respighi ( Chandos), the symphonic music of Casella (Brilliant), the complete works of Malipiero (CPO) and the Rossini-Respighi “ Boutique Fantasque”(CPO). He has recorded Rossini's "Il Turco in Italia," Donizetti's "La figlia del Reggimento" and Cimarosa's "Il matrimonio segreto" for Naxos. On the RS label, he released a recording of Mozart symphonies with the Orchestra Filarmonica of Torino and a recording of French music with the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese. He has embarked on a project with the Ricordi music publishing house to record 20th century Italian music for Naxos, Chandos and CPO with the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin. His television appearances also include a national broadcast of Verdi's "La Traviata" on the popular "Loggione" series on Canale 5, an Italian national network. His conducting of Giselle in 2010 season at the Seoul Opera House with the Korean Symphony Orchestra and the Korean National Ballet in a coproduction with the Opera de Paris was considered the best performance in the entire history of Korean ballet. As a result of this triumph, Marzio Conti has been invited to conduct the Korean National Ballet season through the 2012-13. In the 2012 season Marzio Conti will conduct Donizetti's “ Lucia di Lammermoor” under the direction of Emilio Sagi in the Oviedo's Teatro Campoamor Since July 2011 Marzio Conti is the new Musical Director of Oviedo Filarmonia. .
