BIOGRAPHY
Carlo Goldstein is emerging on the
international scene as a young conductor of
superb promise. In 2009, Goldstein won first
place at the International Conducting
Competition of Graz. In subsequent years, he
has performed extensively in Italy and at many
leading concert halls worldwide.
During 2016, Carlo Goldstein is conducting La Bohème in Reggio Emilia, Como and
Pavia; a new production of Un Ballo in Maschera at the Art Center in Seoul, Korea;
and a production of Turandot as the season opener of the Teatro Grande in Brescia,
which will continue to Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona,
Como and Pavia. In Israel, Goldstein has conducted the Raanana Symphonette
Orchestra in a program featuring the music of Shostakovich, Beethoven and a world
premiere from Israeli composer
Oded Zehavi. Goldstein also made
his debut with the Israel Camerata
at the Jerusalem Theater, with a
program showcasing Händel and
Mozart. Goldstein conducted a
lyric-symphonic
concert
with
music by Verdi, Leoncavallo and
Puccini to open the season of
Teatro Rendano in Cosenza. He
conducted the MDI Ensemble in a
program entirely dedicated to
premieres of young Italian composers at the Conservatorio of Milan and will take
part in the international Schostakowitsch Tage in Gohrisch festival, directing two
works by Eisler and Dessau.
In recent seasons, he has conducted, among others, a new production of Cosi Fan
Tutte at the Opera of Tenerife, a new production of Carmen in the theaters of
Livorno, Lucca and Pisa, a new production of Carmen at the Art Center in Seoul, and
Adriana Lecouvreur in Como, Pavia and Cremona. He conducted Carmen at La Fenice
in Venice and, at the Summer Festival of the Teatro Sociale di Como of 2015, he
conducted the new production of Pagliacci by Leoncavallo, which received the
prestigious Abbiati Prize 2016. Other projects have included L’elisir d’amore, Il
matrimonio segreto and L'Orfeo for the summer Festival della Valle d’Itria.
Carlo Goldstein has conducted a vast symphonic repertoire in just the last few years:
with the Orchestra de I Pomeriggi Musicali of Milan, he conducted a concert
dedicated to 20th century music - Britten, Honegger and Poulenc - which was
broadcast live by Radiorai. He conducted Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and other symphonic concerts

with Italian orchestras such as the
Orchestra of the Arena di Verona,
the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo
in Palermo and the Orchestra of the
Teatro Verdi in Trieste. He also
conducted the Orchestra Regionale
Toscana, the Sinfonica Abruzzese
and Gli Archi del Cherubino.
In April 2011, Amadeus magazine
released a recording of Goldstein
conducting three Mozart piano
concertos with pianist Andrea Bacchetti and the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto;
this recording was later released as a CD by Dynamic. In June 2013, BMG Berlin
released a CD of Italian arias conducted by Goldstein, with tenor Massimo Giordano
and the Ensemble of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. This CD was
greeted with great acclaim from critics and the public and it was among Europe’s
bestselling classical records in 2013.
Carlo Goldstein has also been very active in Russia, where he has conducted, among
others, the Tomsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the Omsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Arkhangelsk Chamber Orchestra, the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, the
Hermitage Symphony Orchestra, the Murmansk Philharmonic Orchestra, Bryansk
Symphony Orchestra and the Samara Philharmonic.
A native of Trieste, Carlo Goldstein currently resides in Milan. He has studied music
at the Conservatory of Trieste, the International Academy of Music in Milan, the
Salzburg Mozarteum and the Royal College of London. He also holds a degree in
Philosophy - Aesthetics - from the State University of Milan and has published
several articles on a range of related subjects, including aesthetics and the history of
music. Goldstein has been a featured artist on the Notevoli series, showcasing upand-coming musical talents, which was broadcast on Italy’s SKY TV Classica
channel.
