 Biography Kevin John Edusei Kevin John Edusei (38) is one of the outstanding conductors of the new generation. His vigorous and groundbreaking interpretations are based on meticulous knowledge of scores and a repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the Modern. Kevin John Edusei has been Principal Conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra since the beginning of the 2014/15 season. Kevin John Edusei first attracted international attention when he won first prize at the Dimitris Mitropoulos Conducting Competition in 2008. Invitations as a guest conductor have taken him to the rostrums of various European orchestras including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Orchestra of Berlin, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the German State Philharmonic of the Rhineland-­‐Palatinate, the Hamburg Symphony, the Düsseldorf Symphony, the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Modern Frankfurt. In the current season, he will make his debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London at the invitation of Composer in Residence Unsuk Chin. In the 2008/2009 season Kevin John Edusei made his debut with the Saxon State Opera in Dresden conducting Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail". In February 2010 he took over at short notice from Fabio Luisi the revival of Paul Hindemith's "Cardillac", which garnered enthusiastic critical acclaim. In January 2013 he made his debut at the Volksoper in Vienna with "The Magic Flute". Other engagements have taken him to the Innsbruck Opera and the Konzert Theater Bern, where he has since the beginning of the current season been Principal Guest Conductor. In the course of the 2014-­‐
2015 season, he will conduct two new opera productions in Bern: Richard Strauss's opera "Salome" (director: Ludger Engels) and Béla Bartók's "Count Bluebeard's Castle" (director: Joachim Schlömer). During his time as conductor and deputy GMD at the opera houses of Bielefeld and Augsburg he was responsible for the musical direction of many operas, including "Fidelio", "Don Carlos“, "Madame Butterfly", "The Marriage of Figaro", "The Magic Flute", "The Barber of Seville", "Lucia di Lammermoor", "Orfeo ed Euridice", "Der ferne Klang" and "Tristan and Isolde". As one of the three winners of the Lucerne Festival's Conducting Competition initiated by Pierre Boulez and Peter Eötvös, Kevin John Edusei conducted Karlheinz Stockhausen's opus magnum "Gruppen für drei Orchester" in 2007. During a three-­‐month scholarship period at the Aspen Music Festival in 200, maestro David Zinman appointed him Academy Conductor. He also counts Marc Albrecht, Kurt Masur, Jorma Panula, Sylvain Cambreling and Peter Eötvös among his mentors. Kevin John Edusei has received support from the German Music Council and has been entered in the "Maestros von morgen" (conductors of tomorrow) list.
