Page 4 of 7 Methods and Materials 28 patients from different University hospitals with history of coronary artery disease has singed the informed concent form and scanned by HDCT (Discovery CT750 HD) and SDCT (Somatom Definition AS). Totally 280 measurements from 140 coronary arteries were analyzed by 2 independent radiologist.The scan modes were bothaxial prospective ECG-triggered. The vessel diameters of ascending aorta(AA), left main coronary artery (LM), left anterior decending coronary artery (LAD), left circumflex artery(Cx), rigth coronary artery (RCA) and vessel attenuation valuesof each were measured by two experienced radiologists. The luminal diameter obtained at the proximal portions of each coronary vessels and the mean luminal diameters were also calculated. All data were analyzed by intraclass correlation test. Image quality graded by motion and stairstep artifacts (grade 1, poor, to grade 4, excellent), accuracy of vessel inner and outer diameters were compared between the two CT units using the independent samples ttest and Mann-Whitney U test. Results The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of measured vessel attenuation values in SDCT between the two radiologists was very good. The ICC was higher in HDCT according to inner and outer diameters of Cx, LAD and also outer diameters of LM. But ICC was higher in SDCT according to inner and outer diameters of AA and RCA. First radiologist image quality score and the attenuation value measurements are higher than second radiologist in HDCT and visa versa for SDCT. The radiation dose of high definition CT angiography (HDCTA) (14,3 mSv) was higher than that of SDCTA (6,5 mSv) when the mean tube current was 180 (mA) in HDCT and 147(mA) in SDCT with the same tube voltage (kVp). CTA images were assigned a satisfactory image quality rating as 3 by both radiologists in stable heart rate up to 75 beats per minute (bpm) when using the minimal X-ray exposure time. Conclusion On the basis of this in vivo study, HDCT has a higher radiation dose than SDCT but has much more atenuation and the spatial resolution which improve measurement accuracy for imaging coronary arteries.
