Planet Jupiter
Of all the planets in the solar system Jupiter is, without a doubt,
the largest, most massive and most dominant of all. If Jupiter
were a container, over 1400 planets the size of Earth could fit
inside. The picture above is the first colour picture taken of
Jupiter. We can also see Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, which is
approximately t he same size as Earth; imagine how small we are!
Jupiter is a large gas planet where clouds change colours
daily. Jupiter’s complex atmosphere bristles with lightening
and swirls with huge storm systems.
Jupiter is sometimes called a mini solar system because of all its
moons (16) and its many rings.
Jupiter’s chemical composition is also very similar to the Sun’s.
We could say t hat Jupiter is a fake star because observation of
the planet has confirmed that it radiates more energy into space
than it receives from the Sun. Who knows if Jupiter had been
only 10 times larger maybe we would have had two suns instead of
one…
