Rockwell_LowVoltContactBlock_800E_cut_D1200 Low Voltage Contact Blocks Product Profile Bulletin 800E Two-Across PenTUFF™ Contact Blocks Allen-Bradley introduces the Bulletin 800E 2X PenTUFF ™ low voltage contact blocks. These contact blocks are designed to offer superior low voltage switching performance for use in all types of low voltage/low current applications. They can also be used in medium voltage AC applications (refer to “Ordering Information” for more details). As a guideline, voltage and current specifications at or below 24V DC and 24 mA respectively, are ideal for PenTUFF ™ contact blocks. The graph below will help determine when low voltage contact blocks can be used. Bulletin 800E 2X PenTUFF™ low voltage contact blocks are specifically designed with the following applications in mind: • PLCs: Programmable logic controllers often communicate in low voltage DC and medium voltage AC environments between input and output devices. Push buttons that communicate with PLCs will perform better with contact blocks that meet the design specifications and service reliability in those voltage and current ranges. • Communications: “Contact bounce” can occur during contact opening and closing or when vibrations are present in the application. This can cause process interruptions. The improved pentafurcated spanner design reduces “contact bounce”, and takes communication reliability to a new level. These reliability improvements will result in lower maintenance costs and reduced down time! Note: This graph represents typical operating ranges for low voltage contacts. For products other than PenTUFF ™, refer to the specific product ratings to insure proper contact selection for that application. increases the likelihood of forcing open the contacts in the event of contact tack or stickiness. Additionally the double break spanner design will distribute arc energy across two air gaps. This adds reliability to the circuit by decreasing contact weld tendency. • All components used in the PenTUFF ™ contact blocks are corrosion resistant. The “Pentafurcated” spanner is made of an inert precious metal Palladium alloy. The stationary contacts and terminals are gold plated and nickel underplated, with a brass Benefits • The Bulletin 800E 2X PenTUFF low voltage contact blocks ™ base and silver nickel contact pads. The terminal clamps and virtually eliminate contamination on stationary contact surfaces screws are stainless steel. This degree of corrosion resistance through the use of a redesigned flexible spanner. The spanner yields a contact block like no other found in the industry! flexes producing a wiping motion that cleans the stationary contact surface during every make and break. This product Closed Contact Open Contact feature is especially beneficial for push buttons that are used infrequently! • The “Pentafurcated” spanner design has 5 contact fingers on each side of the spanner making it possible to have 961 different current paths. The fingers make contact with the rounded stationary surface at progressive intervals in a blanketing effect. Contact bounce is virtually eliminated, Pentafurcated Spanner Rounded Stationary Contact increasing the relative circuit reliability. Refer to the Illustration (at right) to see the “Pentafurcated” spanner as it makes contact with the rounded contact surface. • Butt-Type spanner designs are prone to intermittent contact Ordering Information • PenTUFF ™ contact blocks are offered in: opening due to shock and vibration within their environments. – 1 N.O. contact: Cat.
