Spiritual Director: Ven. Master Hsing Yun
Head Abbess: Ven. Master Yung Jau
Notes and Events:
Fo Guang Shan belongs to the Lingi School of Chinese Chan Buddhism.
Humanistic Buddhism (Chinese; Pinyin: Rénjiān Fójiào) is a popular modern philosophy practiced mainly in Chinese Mahayana Buddhism. It is
the integration of people\'s spiritual practice into all aspects of their daily lives. Buddhist monastics such as Venerable Masters Yin Shun and
Hsing Yun pioneered the start of the propagation of Humanistic Buddhism.
Humanistic Buddhism encompasses all of the Buddhist teachings from the time of Gautama Buddha to the present. The goal of Humanistic
Buddhism is the bodhisattva way, which means to be an energetic, enlightened, and endearing person who strives to help all sentient beings
liberate themselves.
Humanistic Buddhism focuses more on issues of the world rather than on how to leave the world behind; on caring for the living, rather than the
dead; on benefiting others, rather than benefiting oneself and on universal salvation, rather than cultivation for only oneself.
The essence of Fo Guang Shan\'s Humanistic Buddhism:



Nurturing talents through education.
Propagating the Dharma through culture.
Benefiting society through charity.
Purifying people\'s minds through cultivation.
The International Buddhist Progress Society - Manila, Philippines (Fo Guang Shan Manila) was founded on August 8, 1993.

All emotionally mature and stable persons can practice zen. One must be able to keep physically still for a certain period of time.
We welcome all sincere seekers, regardless of their religious affiliation. As our center is in the Philippines, those who wish to practice with us
should be able to communicate in Pilipino or English.
Since zen is a way of life, the only way to learn it is through practice. We have introductory activities such as A Glimpse into Zen and the
Orientation Workshop for those who want to learn.
