Role in Greek Society
Ruled over the earth’s untamed places. She sided
with the Trojans during the war. She represents
women who stray from the “conventional” way
and have taken a more individual and liberated
route in life.
Goddess of love and beauty. She was envied by
other goddesses for her beauty. After receiving
the golden apple from Paris, she awarded him
with Helen. However, Helen was not hers to give.
Aphrodite sided with the Trojans during the war,
and used her powers to protect her mortal son, a
Trojan warrior. She married Hephaestus and
carried on an affair with Ares.
Goddess of agriculture and fertility. Thought to
have first taught mortals how to work the land
and reap its harvest. She has the ability to control
the seasons. Peaceful farmland now lays where
the Trojan war was thought to have taken place,
which is believed to be evidence of her power.
Queen of Mt. Olympus. The guardian of married
women, as she knew the bitter sting of infidelity
from her marriage with Zeus. Often vindictive
towards those who thwarted her. She became a
fierce enemy of the Trojans and helped the
Greeks at every possible moment.
Goddess of war and wisdom has divine intellect
and extraordinary strength. She emerged from
the head of Zeus fully clad in armor. She was a
fierce enemy of Troy until the Greeks defiled her
temple there. She had Poseidon unleash a storm
that wreaked havoc on the returning Greek ships.
She was also known as the protector of the
home.
God of war and brutality. Embodies the worst of
humanities traits. During the Trojan War he aided
the Trojan warrior Hector. Today, Ares still casts a
shadow across the world as his love for chaos
echoes.
Described as ugly, and is the god of fire.
Extraordinary powers with smithing. Master of
fire and forge which he used to create beautiful
objects such as Zeus’s thunderbolt and Athena’s
armor. Fashioned Achilles’ Armor. Gentle
character.
Dionysus
Apollo
Poseidon
Zeus
Hermes
Mortal parent, god of wine and grapes. Magic
distilled from the vine was bringer of ecstasy and
madness. In ancient times, his followers would
dance and drink themselves into frenzies. Also
known as the god of the theater. Actors thought
to be followers of Dionysus.
God of prophecy, music, and healing. Offers
wisdom as a link between gods and man alike.
Taught mortals healing arts including music. Gifts
of enlightenment helped humans. He aided the
Trojans in the Trojan war. Centuries later, man
named their journey Apollo, after the god.
God of water and the sea. Watches over his
domain from deep beneath the surface. Sided
with the Greeks in the Trojan War, however
unleashed a storm wreaking havoc on them one
they started sailing home.
God of thunder. Refused to take sides in the
Trojan war. Bestowed Paris with the duty of
awarding the golden apple to the fairest of the
goddesses. Father of Helen. No paragon of virtue.
Very unfaithful to Hera.
Messenger of Zeus, patron god of travelers, and
thieves. Aided Odysseus in his travel home.
Creating foot racing as he was always running
around. Is seen the most in Greek mythology.
