Position summary
The World Resources Institute seeks an Associate for The Access Initiative (TAI) and the
Partnership for Principle 10 (PP10). The Access Initiative is a global coalition of civil society
organizations that promotes access to information, participation, and justice in decision-making
that affects the environment. The Access Initiative is led by a Core Team of organizations based
in Chile, Hungary, Mexico, Thailand, and Uganda, and also includes organizations in an
expanding number of countries. The Partnership for Principle 10 brings together governments,
NGOs, and international organizations to support implementation of Principle 10 of the Rio
Declaration and relevant commitments under the WSSD Plan of Implementation. WRI serves as

Major responsibilities
In collaboration with colleagues at WRI and other organizations represented in TAI and PP10, the
Associate will:






Support the TAI Core Team and NGO partners in using the TAI methodology to conduct
national assessments of environmental governance, prepare action plans and undertake
policy interventions to reform access laws, practices and institutions, capacity building
and fundraising;
Conduct training workshops with new NGO partners;
Contribute to the on-going improvement of the TAI methodology and other research
efforts;
Support PP10 by working with partners to establish and review new commitments to the
partnership;
Play a principal role in developing TAI and PP10 networks; Represent TAI and PP10 in
various arenas;
Provide support to the TAI Director, Project Manager and Coordinator in administering
and managing TAI and PP10 project activities, including the development of workplans,
budgets, proposals, donor reports, and internal WRI reporting.
Qualifications






A Masters degree in a relevant field. Those currently enrolled in a Masters degree
program will also be considered.
At least three years of experience in capacity-building for NGOsin developing countries,
with field experience preferred. Experience conducting training programs, teaching and
mentoring and preparing and executing action plans will be particularly valuable.
Experience in policy and action research and advocacy related to access to information,
participation, and justice in environmental decision-making or governance.
Knowledge of international organizations, civil society organizations, and the donor
community
Ability to travel extensively.
Working knowledge of French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese or another major world
language is an added advantage.


Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills. Good interpersonal skills and the ability
to work with teams of individuals with widely diverse educational, ethnic, and cultural
backgrounds.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and to
prioritize among competing issues.
Location: Washington, D.C.
Salary and benefits: Mid 40Ks to mid 70K depending on level of experience and background and
level of hire; comprehensive benefits package.
