Cardiothoracic imaging rotation goals and responsibilities The cardiac imaging rotation encompasses all facets of cardiothoracic radiography, CT and MRI. The primary goal of this rotation is recognize cardiac pathology manifestations in all modalities with a focus on cardiac CT (CCTA) and cardiac MRI (CMRI). The curriculum will be divided as follows: Week 1: Coronary arteries Week 2: Beyond the coronary arteries: Valves, pericardium and masses Week 3: Basics of CMRI and late gadolinium enhancement Week 4: Aorta (CT and MRI) By the end of this rotation, residents should be able to Recognize imaging manifestations of cardiovascular pathology across modalities Identify the most common appropriate indications for CCTA and CMRI Understand the fundamental technical aspects involved in CCTA acquisition Independently interpret cardiac CTA with basic knowledge of post processing techniques Understand basic cardiac imaging planes and how to acquire them Recognize basic CMRI pulse sequences and how they are used Understand the patterns of late gadolinium enhancement Rotation duration is Monday-Friday from 8 am until 5 pm. Contact the cardiac attending the day on radres before to schedule location and time of read out. Goals and reponsibilities Protocols Image acquisition Description Interpretation All cardiac exams on chest CT and MR Cardiothoracic lists should be protocoled each day Make sure all CT and MR techs make you the first call for any cardiac imaging related issues Consult with nursing/tech staff prior to CCTA for patient premedication/protocols as needed. Be present in scanner for at least 5 CCTAs. Be present in scanner for at least 5 CMRIs. 150 cardiac CTAs during rotation on Vitrea or TeraRecon. These may be new cases, cases from keyword SSB CCTA PRACTICE, or any others on PACS. Keep log so that you can claim SCCT Level 2 certification once you are board certified. http://www.scct.org/credentialing/SCCT_2.pdf 3D post processing o Review with Tim Spivey Day 1 of rotation, 8 Conferences Rad Primer Reading syllabus AM, UH chest reading room If you are done with cardiac cases before 5 pm, check with the chest attending on site before leaving for the day to see if you can help out. Prepare 1 case per week on rotation for the Interdisciplinary Advanced Cardiac Imaging (ACI) Conference ppt template with the following components: o Clinical hx/biomarkers o ECG—review with ECHO fellow o ECHO images—review with ECHO fellow o CT/MR images o Literature review on relevant topic of your choosing Collaborate with cardiology fellow on presentation and discussion Prepare 1 case per week on rotation for CIC.
