Patient information Adult orthodontics When might you consider treatment as an adult? To improve the appearance of your teeth and face. Perhaps your teeth have become more crowded with age, or have started to drift forward from past gum disease. To move teeth prior to any cosmetic work. To improve the health of your teeth and gums. To improve function. Are braces still possible as an adult? Age is not necessarily a limiting factor. It more than often depends on the type of malocclusion i.e. the position of your teeth, bite and jaws you have. It is also not wise to take up orthodontic treatment if you have active gum disease, which needs to be under control first. What types of braces are available? They can be removable such as invisalign. Or fixed to the teeth such as metal or ceramic. Do they have to be so visible? There are tooth coloured ceramic brackets available. They are less visible at a distance, however sometimes the metal wires can still be seen, to overcome this ceramic coated wires can be made available. How long does treatment take? Treatment can take longer as an adult due to the cease of growth. Generally it can take 18-24 months. How much does it cost? Speak to your orthodontist, prices start from £1000 to £2000 depending on how many arches and the colour of bracket chosen. For adults Metal one arch £1000 Metal both arches £1750 White one arch £1250 White both arches £2000 For more information speak to a member of staff.
