VERY IMPORTANT: Keep Your Computer Up-to-Date and Secure
Players, browsers, plug-ins and your operating system work together to deliver
materials on the web. Unfortunately, security breaches often exploit weaknesses in
these systems and cause your computer to be vulnerable to harm. Check that you have
the most recent versions to limit your exposure. And, of course, always use virus
protection.
** CHECK TODAY **
Java Updates:
Java is currently the highest priority plug-in to check in
early 2013. This is due to new potential risks associated with earlier versions of
Java. Please visit Verify Java Version to check whether your Java is up-to-date or to
download the latest version of Java. If it’s out-of-date please update it right away.
What about removing Java completely . . . just to be safe? If you’d like to remove any and
all Java versions from your computer, and you find out later that you need Java, you can just
reinstall it quickly from http://www.java.com/. It’s up to you. However, just installing the
most recent version of Java should be all that is required at this time.
Not optional: Uninstalling old versions of Java: You need to also check for, and delete, any
old versions of Java that may still be residing on your computer. Otherwise, even though you
aren’t using these old versions, they compromise your computer’s security. To uninstall old java
versions please follow these instructions: http://java.com/en/download/uninstall.jsp
Experiencing trouble using Java? If so, please check the following resources:
> Remove Old Versions of Java (Windows)
> How Do I Disable Java In My Web Browser?
> Java Help Center
I’ve just started to see this
popup box, should I be
concerned?
No, that’s fine! With increased
browser security and new versions
of plug-ins you may now, or in the
near future, be prompted to click
“Run” everytime your class material
requires using a plug-in.
However, if the popup box also indicates that a specific plug-in needs to be updated you
should update it right away.
