THE SETTING

CAST BIOGR APHIES
Jim Jarrell
(George Petersen) is a
native of Cleveland, Ohio,
who moved to Chicago in
late 2013. He has spent
the last 35 years performing on community and
professional theatre stages
throughout the country. Some of Jim’s theatre
credits include local productions of Sweeney
Todd (Oakton CC PAC) and Legally Blonde (Big
Noise Theatre). He has professional credits in
regional and New York City productions of Cabaret, H.M.S. Pinafore, West Side Story, Children
of Eden, My Fair Lady, A Chorus Line, Fiddler on
the Roof, Assassins, Company, and Boys In The
Band. Jim is also an accomplished director
with numerous credits including Pajama Game,
State Fair, The Drowsy Chaperone, Annie Get Your
Gun, Merrily We Roll Along, Falsettos and Vintage
Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play among many others. When he is not busy showcasing his talents
on stage or in the “director’s chair,” Jim is a legal
marketing and business development executive for the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg in
downtown Chicago. He would like to thank his
friends and family for their ongoing love and
support, and is especially grateful to YOU for
continuing to support LIVE THEATRE!
Laura Sturm (Doris)
teaches acting and voice/
movement for actors
(including Period Styles),
and has been seen in
Chicago in a number of
roles including, Blanche in
A Streetcar Named Desire,
Gertrude in Hamlet (Polarity Ensemble Theatre),
Charity Barnum in Barnum (Quest Ensemble
Theatre), Alma in The Christmas Schooner
(Bailiwick Repertory), Mrs. Hardcastle in She
Stoops to Conquer (Signal Ensemble Theatre),
and most recently as Ana in The Clean House
with Bluebird Arts. Other favorite roles include
Imogen in Cymbeline, the title role in Evita, and
Anna in Burn This. Additionally, Laura has
worked with such theatres as Mary-Arrchie,
Remy Bumppo, Victory Gardens, Boho, Stage
Left, Northlight, Provision, Raven, Theo Ubique,
Fox Valley Repertory, and the Texas Shakespeare
Festival. Directing credits include a world
premiere of the dark sci-fi comedy Ephemera,
Sheridan’s 18th century comedy of manners, The
Rivals, and the original zoo musical, Tuxedo Love.
Laura received her MFA from Northern Illinois
University, is an Adjunct Faculty member at
Oakton Community College and North Central
College, and also serves as a private acting and
movement coach.

Stephen M. Genovese (Director) is delighted to
be working with MadKap Productions, where he
recently directed Tuesdays With Morrie. Stephen
has a long theatre association with Wendy
Kaplan, and couldn’t be happier to be collaborating with her once again. He is a Jeff-award
winning director who has spent the better part
of 30 years involved in theatre in one aspect
or another. From stage direction to technical
direction, costuming to props, acting to writing.
His being involved on so many levels was the
catalyst needed in 2003 to create the highly acclaimed Chicago-based company BoHo Theatre,
for which he is the Founding Artistic Director
(he handed over the current AD duties in 2010).
Steve has performed at, or worked with, The
Marriott Theatre, Pheasant Run Dinner Theatre,
Theatre at the Center, and Court Theatre, just to
name a few. Productions as Director include The
Wild Party, SideShow (Jeff Award - best director,
musical), Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of
Oscar Wilde*, Jekyll & Hyde, La Cage aux Folles, The
Glorious Ones*, I Am My Own Wife (co-directed
with Peter Marston Sullivan)*, Dirty Blonde, The
Rainmaker, The Secret Garden, and Hauptmann*,
a concept piece about the kidnapping of the
Lindbergh baby. Stephen sincerely thanks all involved in this production, and you, the audience,
for supporting live theatre. Special thanks go to

Wendy Kaplan (Producer) is the founding
member of MadKap Productions, the resident
theatre company here at Skokie Theatre. In
addition to this year’s Crimes of the Heart
and Sweet Charity, MadKap Productions has
produced Corpus Delicti, Mr. Shaw Goes to
Hollywood, Clutter: The True Story of the Colyer
Brothers Who Never Threw Anything Out and a
national tour of Side Effects May Include which
travels the country in support of the Shaking

with Laughter Foundation and the Michael J.
Fox Foundation. She is a former Broadway brat,
beginning her career as a gopher on Broadway
for such productions as Lost in the Stars, the
Leonard Bernstein Mass and various other plays.
Locally, Wendy was the Managing Director
of Stage Two Theatre Company, and has also
produced for Citadel Theater, the NorthShore
Theater of Wilmette and Footlighters Theater
Company in Des Plaines. Wendy is thrilled to
be producing theatre at her new home, The
Skokie Theatre! She would like to thank YOU,
the audience, for the consistent support and
affirmation. Enjoy the show!
Ryan Bruce (Assistant to the Director) is a
director, actor, and producer recently relocated
to Chicago. He is delighted to be working
on his first Chicago area production here at
Skokie Theatre with Madkap Productions. Ryan
received an MFA from Texas Tech University,
a BA from the University of New Orleans, and
was honored as a national Kennedy Center
Fellow. He has developed new plays at both the
Eugene O’Neill Center (The Solid Sand Below by
Martin Zimmerman) and the Kennedy Center
(The Christians by Lucas Hnath), worked onstage
at New Orleans Shakespeare and Southern
Repertory Theatre, and co-created Fault Line,
which was the first American production at The
MeetFactory in Prague, CZR. Ryanpbruce.com
Cate Anderson (Stage Manager)
Cate Anderson is very excited to return to Skokie
Theatre for Same Time Next Year. This will be
her fourth production with Madkap, a history
which includes: Sweet Charity, Side Effects May
Include…, and Clutter! The True Story of the Collyer
Brothers Who Never Threw Anything Out. Other
Chicago area credits include: Joseph And The
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (The Performer’s
School); Tyrant, and 9 Circles (Sideshow
Productions); Creditors (Remy Bumppo); Robin
Hood: The Panto, Low Pay? Don’t Pay!, Six Dead
Queens and an Inflatable Henry, and Black
Comedy (Piccolo Theatre). Some of her other
favorite credits are: The Mystery Of Irma Vep,
Vivien, Midsummer Night’s Dream (Theatre At
Monmouth), My Fair Lady, Steel Magnolias, and
Crazy For You (Fiddlehead Theatre). When not
stage managing, she can be found on the run
crew at Chicago Shakespeare.

MadKap Productions
Janice Gemp (Costumer) is happy to be
back working with MadKap Productions after
costuming their musical production of Sweet
Charity this past fall. Other professional credits
include Moon Over Buffalo –costumer , My
Fair Lady – wardrobe, Thoroughly Modern
Millie – props (GTG), School House Rock Too,
How I Became a Pirate, Willy Wonka - costumer
(Highland Park Players), as well as HPP’s fall
musicals a Chorus Line and CATS as Props
Mistress, Full Monty - costumer, Music Man
– Props Mistress (Footlighters) and various
productions at Citadel Theatre as assistant
costumer, wardrobe and props mistress, and
crew. Looking forward to GTG’s The Odd Couple,
and HPP’s Good Night Moon – the Musical –
opening later this month, as well as Citadel’s
production of Don’t Dress for Dinner in April of
this year. Janice is thrilled to be working with
this wonderful production team and cast at
MadKap Productions.
Andrew Vanderbye (Lighting Designer) is
excited to be working with MadKap Productions
again, having designed lights for Crimes of
the Heart last year. Originally from Northwest
Indiana, Andrew received a BA in Theater with a
concentration in Design from Indiana University’s
Northwest Campus. Previous Chicago lighting
design credits include Richard III (The Empty
Theater), The Long Walk for Water (Jerry Miller
Productions), The Quality of Life (Den Theater), and
Good Boys and True (Kokandy Productions).
Bob Boxer (Sound Designer) is happy to be
working on this production of Same Time, Next
Year having just completed Crimes of the Heart,
Sweet Chairty, Tuesdays with Morrie, Corpus Delicti
and Mr. Shaw Goes To Hollywood, also for Madkap
Productions, A Christmas Carol for Citadel Theater
Company and The Music Man for Footlighters
Theater Company. Bob has also worked with
The Buffalo Grove Arts Commission, Symphonic
Band and Parks Department as well as theater
companies in California and New York. In his
other life, he is a radio engineer, specializing in
remote broadcasts of sports events and special
events. Bob sends his love and thanks to his wife
Lori for her continuing support.
