Aspects of the Disease
Use the following to organize your research. Include these as the titles for your
written presentation of the material.
A) Description of Disease: Describe the location and severity of the cancer. This should
be presented thoroughly and in terms your patient will be able to understand. Include the
location of the cancer, tumor size and/or spread, current severity, and at least 2
symptoms.
B) Risk Factors: The cause includes three risk factors possessed by the individual.
Examples of risk factors may include environmental, hereditary, occupation, life style,
and medical history.
C) Treatment: Describe possible treatments for the disease. Explain how each treatment
type kills the cancer cells.
D) Treatment Side Effects: Describe the possible side effects of each treatment
described above.
E) Recommendations: Based on your research, describe your recommendations for
treatment. Be able to discuss with the patient three reasons for your recommendation.
F) Progression/Complications: Discuss what may occur if the cancer is untreated or if
treatment is delayed. Include a description of all the stages of the cancer.
G) Follow-up: After treatment is complete, describe the frequency and type of medical
tests the patient must do to prevent the cancer from coming back. What symptoms
should they bring to the doctor’s attention?
H) Lifestyle changes: Describe what lifestyle changes the patient should make in order
to stay healthy.
