Marketing Coordinator
TechTown Detroit seeks a hyper-organized, digital media-savvy Marketing Coordinator with
superior storytelling skills. A key member of a small and dynamic communications team, the
Marketing Coordinator will oversee and support a wide range of marketing efforts for TechTown
and its partner, the Wayne State University Office of Economic Development. The Marketing
Coordinator will also guide and execute a robust digital media program, with support from a
social media consultant.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all current OED, TechTown and J440 social media platforms, with primary
responsibility for TechTown and OED’s Facebook pages. Coordinate other social media
channels with social media consultant, keeping all regularly updated with news, events
announcements, client stories and other posts that provide a timely, accurate and well-rounded
picture of the organization and its programs
Create and regularly update TechTown’s Digital Marketing Plan with recommendations for
platforms, campaigns and approaches suitable to the organizations’ audiences and for digital
strategies to drive engagement. Monitor digital media trends and be proactive in recommending
new, cost-effective approaches and campaigns
Maintain TechTown, J440 and Office of Economic Development websites; Coordinate with
website vendors on projects and troubleshoot various web-related problems when necessary
Produce or assist with regular electronic communications such as media releases, enewsletters,
board updates, eblasts and Eventbrites
Produce client, program and organization stories for a variety of platforms (print, video, social
media, web) and maintain an active roster of story ideas
Photograph clients, events, etc. and produce short films (eg, interviews with clients) as needed
Manage email marketing lists and ensure they are regularly updated
Accurately maintain and update TechTown Communications and Events Calendar
Assist with event logistics and staffing as needed
Assume additional communications/marketing tasks as needed and contribute to the creation of
systems to ensure smooth work flow
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be both an insightful storyteller and a savvy marketer, possessing
demonstrated facility with a range of digital platforms, written and verbal communication, data
collection and analysis, and budgeting. Specific qualifications include:
4+ years’ experience in communications or marketing roles with progressively increasing
responsibility
Demonstrated understanding of the social media universe, including Facebook, YouTube,
Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, Google+, blogging, and new and emerging platforms
Proficiency with content management systems and with digital communications/registration
platforms, such as MailChimp and Eventbrite
Demonstrated ability to write/produce for a range of print and electronic platforms, including
social media, print and broadcast media, websites and blogs
Video production capabilities and photography skills
Strong understanding of website and social analytics
Excellent project management skills and ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
Basic graphic design skills/interest and proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud a definite plus
Knowledge of and interest in entrepreneurship, startups, small businesses and/or community
and economic development issues in Detroit also a plus
