Respiration Notes Function: supply oxygen to the body ad remove carbon dioxide and water. Breathing Movement of the chest that brings air into the body through the lungs Respiration Chemical reaction used by cells to release energy from glucose; produces Co2 and H2O as waste Parts: Nose: air enters body nasal cavities which are lined with cilla Pharynx- tube-like passageway between food and nose- also used by food/liquid (Contains larynx- contains vocal cords) Trachea- tube help open by rings of cartilage called wide pipe; lined with cilla and mucous Epiglottis- small flap of tissue that folds over trachea with prevents food or liquid from entering lungs Bronchi - passages that direct air into the lugs Lungs- major organs of respiratory system Bronchi go into lungs and branch off. Bronchiloes- smallest tubes of bronchi that end in clusters called alveolitiny sacs of lung tissue specialized for the movement of gases between air and blood The Breathing Process: Exhale: Inhale: 1. 2. 3. 4.
