REQUEST FOR INFORMATION----REMOTE POWER FEEDING SOLUTION
1. PTCL has a large network of outdoor NEs called MSAG/ONU located at roadsides, market places,
residential areas etc.
2. The load of these NEs are ranging from 500W to 1500W.These are usually operated without gen
set backup and rely on small battery banks (~1 x125AH or 2 x125AH) for backup purpose during
grid outages. In case of extended outages, these NEs sometimes face service outages.
3. In order to address this issue, it is being planned that uninterrupted power supply available in
main exchanges (central office) be transmitted to these NEs, over copper pairs.
4. Some of these NEs have a nearby copper cabinet where sometime spare Cu pairs (usually upto
100) are also available.
5. The solution we try to plan should be able to transmit DC power over Cu pairs. On MSAG, there
is already a DC plant (rectifiers+ batteries). There should be a DC static switch to be installed on
MSAG that can seamlessly shift the system load to DC backup in case of Cu cable cut/ remote
power down.
6. Site power conditions like load on remote power/ local power, cable cut alarm, battery voltage
in case of local power etc. needs to be monitored on NMS.
7. Though the project is aimed with existing Cu pairs, however if attractive price receives, it can be
extended to other areas where there is no Cu pair available, by putting new Cu pairs.
8. The above is one scheme; other proposals to address the issue shall also be welcomed.
9. Clarification, if any, may be obtained from [email protected] or cell no. 0333-5179161.
10. Technical proposals with budgetary prices should be delivered to following address by or before
