Why Did Europeans Explore?
Italian merchants grew wealthy trading with Asia.
Other Europeans wanted access to this trade without
using Italian merchants.
As a result, European explorers looked for a sea route
to Asia. Traders especially wanted Asian spices.
European missionaries also wanted to convert people
in other lands to Christianity.
