Islam means surrender to Allah (God).
Muslims recognize Abraham and Jesus as prohets of God; however, Muslims believe the final prophet that spoke
with God and wrote God’s words in the Quran was Muhammad.
Monotheistic, they all pray to the same God
A Muslim is anyone that believes in Islam. The only difference between the three is the country they live in.
A stereotype is a general image of a person or group of people. An example would be, “All people in New Jersey
act like the people on the TV show, “The Jersey Shore”.
The Islamic prophet was a man named, Muhammad.
Muhammad copied the words of God in a book Muslims call, The Quran. Muslims consider the words in the
Quran to be the actual words of God.
Only 6% of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil have been tied to Muslim extremists. Also, more acts of terror have taken
place on U.S. soil by groups like left and right-wing extremists, Eco terrorists, etc.

Parts of the Bible like the New Testament are accounts of Jesus written by followers of Jesus. Therefore, it is much
more narrative than the Quran (story-based). The Quran is considered by Muslims to be the actual words of God,
spoken by God to Muhammad (who then wrote them in the Quran).
While there are some Muslim nations that oppress women, MOST of the Muslim world does NOT engage in
these actions. Muslim women have been presidents and prime ministers. Violence towards women and forcing
actions against the will of women is not permitted by Islam.
Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all part of the same religious tree. All three believe in the same God but,
members of each of these religions have different opinions about who the real prophet was.
Jihad means struggle. Jihad applies to any internal or external struggle a human deals with.
Islam not only respects and acknowledges other prophets like Abraham and Jesus but, the religion of the Jews and
Christians is the same as that revealed to Muhammad, and Allah is God of them all.
Muslims believe there will be a final day of judgment where people will either be chosen to go to heaven or hell.
Shahadah is basically memorizing and saying the following in prayer: “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad
is the prophet.”
Salat includes the practice of praying five times a day.
Zakat includes fasting during the month of Ramadan.
Sawm is the practice of giving 2.5% of your income to charity and those less fortunate.
Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia at least one time in your life.

The Kaaba is located in the Grand Mosque in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Arabian government
controls who moves in and out of this holy site. The Saudi government also requires that foreigners going on Hajj:
a) prove they are Muslim and b) require that female visitors provide a written letter from a male relative to the
Saudi government allowing them to travel.
A mosque is a holy place where Muslims pray. An Imam is a religious official that leads prayers at mosques.
Women wear Hijabs (head dresses) because it’s a Jewish and Christian tradition (Mary wore a head dress)

Halal is a code that Muslims live by regarding food: no pork, no alcohol, all animals must face Mecca as it’s
slaughtered.
Sunni Muslims believe that the true successor of Muhammad was a man named Abu Bakr. Shia Muslims believe
the real successor to Muhammad should have been a man named Ali.
Muslims must pray 5 times a day, call to prayer calls through music which signals Muslims to pray
All Muslims face Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
